My wife grew up in Mexico, she completed her Masters degree there. When she moved to the USA she was shocked at the bitterness that the so called Mexican-Americans, the so called Chicanos, hold towards the USA.
1) Mexico sold to the USA what today is the southwest USA.
2) Do a survey, most "Mexican-Americans" do not know why they celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Most will say liberty from Spain. They are clueless about the French in Mexico.
3) Cinco de Mayo is not a huge national holiday in Mexico. It was made a big holiday for "Mexican-Americans" by "Mexicans-Americans".
4) Mexico stole land from Guatemala and Belize. Where is the outcry by CBS, "Mexican-Americans"? The USA bought the land from Mexico.
Mexico has quite a few periods in its history that are very, very dark. "La Guerra de los Cristeros" for example. These put to shame all dark periods of American history. Also, for most of its history, Mexico has been ruled by ruthless dictators.
Self flagellation is an American specialty (Germany and the UK come close) that other nations and people are all too happy to watch or lend a helping hand in perpetuating.

So Americans are living on land that ONCE was Mexico's. What was CBS's point? A war was fought and Mexico was paid $15 million for that land and forgaven many debts they owed us. It's a done deal and has nothing to do with those of us alive today. What does any of that have to do with Cinco de Mayo which was a war between the Mexicans and the French and/or any so-called immigration reform? I'ts not reform anyway it's amnesty.....again.
Also, as for Cinco De Mayo this was exaggerated by the marketing geniuses in America. More or less, a Mexican St. Patrick's day was created.
Do you think American-Mexicans celebrate 4th of July in Mexico? Sometimes Americans party and have no idea what they are celebrating......we really need to get a clue. Mexico doesn't even celebrate the holiday like some Americans do. Some Americans celebrate Cinco de Mayo more than they do the 4th of July.
After all, the 4th of July is just for dumb ole' white people who carry the American Flag......
Feelings are still raw? Get over it!
Remembrance is one thing, but still feeling cranky over it?
I'm a southerner and I feel the same regarding the Civil War. Get over it! All we have is right now.
