They are not the low tax party of no we all thought.

Look how many republicans voted yes on the internet sales tax bill. The bill that will eventually pave the way for a VAT tax and homogenized government gangster taxing authorities. States will now follow by increasing sales tax rates as high as they please now that the competition was eliminated. Expect local online businesses in your state to now have to comply with up to 45 yearly audits. Those same businesses in your state will have to go against the law of the land and collect other states sales.taxes. this will change taxation in this country like nothing we've ever seen before. Expect your sales tax rates to surge once you hand over power to outside state monopoly taxing entities that will be spawned as a result. The republican party had a chance to stop this madness. Instead they are going along with it despite the unconstitutional nature of this bill. The GOP is finished. This country is finished.

Al Sharpton is only worth $5 million?

With all the b.s. he's shoveled over the years you'd think he'd have a bigger piggy bank.

This is not a new tax, complain to your local state legislator about it. By law the consumer is already required to remit this sales tax in most states whether the purchase is online or through mail order, very few people do. What this bill does is switch the obligation from the consumer to the retailer.

There is good arguments for both sides, brick and mortar stores are at a disadvantage especially for high dollar items. If I'm going to buy a $1000 DSLR the online retailer has a $60 advantage over the camera store down the street. On the other side of the argument small online retailers can expect a very large increase in the amount of paperwork they need to do.

The advantage is only in your mind.
Online retailer- lower price, but shipping required vs. brick and mortar store- immediate possession of product.
Taken a little further, a gallon of milk at the corner gas station will be typically higher priced than the same gallon at a the back of a grocery store or sams, costco etc.
Convenience carries a premium.

Fact is,onerous legislation such as this crowds out small business and favors big retailers.
Instead of trying to justify increased revenue to a corrupt and inefficient state, the conversation should be about finding ways to decrease the role of government in the private economy and lessening the tax burden on the brick and mortars.

There is still time to fight this. It must be passed by the House before it becomes law, and that will be tougher.

I faxed my Senators twice on this. One of them is Sherrod Brown, but that is always a waste, because he is a complete idiot, a "died in the wool" liberal Progressive. He couldn't care less. Rob Portman is another matter, and he should be watched carefully, because he's looking like just another 'John McCain' liberal.

This can be stopped. Do not consider it 'done.' Make sure your Representatives know how you feel about it. I think it will kill many online retailers altogether, and it will certainly burden local 'brick and mortar' businesses that use the internet to increase their sales and expand their reach. Can you imagine what they are facing in trying to comply with this? I think most of them will simply quit using the Internet for sales altogether.
