I too am single with no children but I am taxed to pay for things that don't benefit me personally either.
Education is one thing we all need to pay for, every person in this country has benefited from the public schools in this country in some way. It's essential that we have an educated citizenry.
That said it's time to look at alternative ways to educate the children of this country
A problem I see is if a completely private institute takes the public voucher is that institute the governed by the DOE.
Also does a completely private school have the right to turn down a voucher thus avoiding theDOE.
I think if anyone is accepting public funding they should meet some standard testing standards for basics like reading, math etc. Someone suggested previously that the private schools be subjected testing if they were to take public funds and I can agree to that as long as the same testing standards were being applied to the public schools as well. I would even extend the vouchers to the homeschoolers as long as they were willing to accept the testing.
The other thing I suggested was that the parents be allowed to "bank" any unused funds for higher education, this will prevent the schools from simply setting cost based on the amount of the voucher.
Anybody not taking public funds of course should be exempt from any testing.
I know many Jews who read those books and skipped college and went straight to law school.
Please show us how only studying Talmud leads one to skip secular studies, skip college in order and pass the LSAT with high scores to become a lawyer in the secular world. Or maybe you are a discussing a law school that only covers Talmudic Law. We are not stupid to confuse Orthodox Jews that go to Yeshiva University with the Hassidic Jews who live in Monsey.

ever hear of a BTL
If chasdiem learned more biyun and not just bikyus (and spoke in English like a first language) they would also be able to get in to top rate law schools.
Public schools have to try to teach every kid, including the halt, lame, disruptive, stupid and insane, that shows up. Private schools can be picky. Let the public schools be a picky and they would probably do better than the private schools.
I do not believe this is a sector, unlike so many others, where private for profit business can latch onto the public teat and suck it dry. I would rather eliminate private schooling completely than acquiesce to vouchers. If a parent does not want to put a child in public school eh they can pay for both.

You address that by stipulating they need to take X percentage of special needs students based on the amount of their budget that is publicly funded.
