Outsiders had nothing to do with Detroit's demise; all of their wounds have been self-inflicted by their elected officials.

Even Berry Gordy saw the handwriting on the wall when he moved Motown's headquarters from Detroit to Hollywood in 1972.

Detroit was built upon industry, specifically the car makers. Industry has since abandoned Detroit.

Detroit is a hell hole because the people that live there make it that way. Detroit's murder rate is on the level of war zone. Half the population is functionally illiterate. Its infrastructure is crumbling. Its city services are a joke. Government corruption is rampant. Huge swaths of the city are burnt out. That is the reality of the city. It's not a false perception.
Bill Clinton's NAFTA destroyed Detroit. Much of that industry went to Ciudad Juarez which has a much much higher murder rate and huge swaths of that city are burned out but it has much lower wages.

Politicians, especially the liberal politicians have sold out the American people. Destroying the manufacturing industry in the USA was deliberate.

Deserves its own thread.

They are in pretty unique situation if they can get their act together. No other city in this country has the newly acquired green space they have, ever look at it from Google maps? 50 years from now Detroit could be one of the nicest cities in the country.
