I see the haters are telling us what the new bill says, without reading what the new bill says. SSDD.
Before this bill was brought up, if an employee worked (say) ten hours in a day, his boss
had to pay him money for 11 hours of time (8 hours at straight time and 2 hours at time-and-a-half). Fine as far as it goes.
But the boss was not allowed to offer the employee time off on a future day instead ("comp time"), to make up for the extra time the employee worked today. Many bosses did so anyway, letting the employee take two hours off tomorrow or next week etc., but it was not sanctioned by the law.
If this new law is implemented, then the boss will be able to offer the employee a choice: He can get paid three hours' worth of money for the two hours he worked overtime, OR he can take THREE hours' comp time if he wants to. If the employee wants to be paid the money instead of the comp time, then the boss must pay him the money. But if the employee would rather have the comp time, he can choose that instead.
So this new law gives the employee an extra choice he didn't have before. He can take the money the old way, or take comp time if he wants it, the new way.
Only difference is, where the employee used to get TWO hours comp time, now he gets THREE.
The haters didn't mention that this frees the employee up and doesn't force him into anything. That didn't fit their agenda, so they lied about how eeevil the boss (or the Republicans, whomever) must be instead.
