The issue isn't the prison being "suicide proof." You have to ask yourself the questions as to why it is that way? Because when some idiot of a criminal DOES kill themselves, the ACLU and/or some other attorney, is the first one jumping on the bandwagon suing the prison (In most cases, that means your tax dollar; in fact, in most cases). Therefore, prisons have suicide watch, and "suicide proof" cells.

In order to change this, you would have to pass laws which would relieve ALL prisons free from civil liability when an inmate commits suicide. Of course, now that is going to open up a whole big ole can of worms, right? Some nutcase will kill themselves and the family will accuse the prison guards of committing murder, framing it as a suicide. Of course, the flip side is: It probably would occur that way, in less then 1% of the cases.

Hm.
We have plenty of free people commiting suicide without visible reasons including war's veterans who commit suicide at a rate of 22 persons a day and nobody cares but we wanna discuss prison's suicide?
How about homeless? Richest country in the world not suppose to have homeless.

Quite frankly, prison suicides doesn't even make it to the very bottom of my list of concerns.

It is a choice that any person should be able to make themselves.

The problem is that if you don't have safeguards in place.....you are creating an environment where you can kill inmates and have it easily pass as suicide or just torment the inmate into doing so.

I think that past abuses in prison systems have lead to these types of protections being in place.

Go ahead, let them take their own lives. It will save taxpayers a lot of money if they would.
