Extremely overrated but hey it was the 1980s!
As a President, he was a damn good actor.

The Soviet Union does not exist today, many people in Europe are free, and the world is a safer place because President Reagan outspent the Soviet Union in the defense area.

The Soviet Union also self destructed by continuing their war in Afghanistan and by relying on a socialist economic model that always meets with failure.

Learn some history - that way you won't come across as sounding so ignorant.
Reagan didn't win the Cold War. He was taking a nap in the oval office when it happened. He just happened to be at the right place when it happened.

The USSR was disbanded because the citizens revolted against their government. Reagan's Defense spending had very little to do with it.

Learn some history.

But I do respect R. Reagan for his attempted military service, his hatred of dictators, his love of freedom, and for his family values.
If R. Reagan never popularized supply side tax cuts (and the deficits that come with them) he would be one of my favorite presidents too.

But in reality Reagan left America ok. Clinton came along and reversed his supply side tax cuts, and then America's national debt started to go down, and America was once again at the top of the world.

But then GW Bush did more supply side tax cuts, and here we are today without any money, and in huge debt.

I don't hate republicans I hate supply side tax cuts.
Accurate description! Clinton actually had the budget running a surplus until George W came along and said "I've got a great idea! Let's cut taxes, even if we don't need to."

I remember in 1983 being in Ingalls shipbuilding Pascagoula MS overhauling the destroyer I was stationed. One day around mid morning an announcement came over the 1MC that Ronald Ray-Gun had just signed a contract ordering a new class of submarine that would be built at Ingalls. The entire ship full of Union welders, ship fitters, painters, laborers started yelling and hollering how much they loved President Reagan. With a stroke of his pen he gave them all job security for life. He understood the relationship betweeen the MIC, our economy and the union blue collar skilled trades, the ripple effect contracts like these had on the economy and that it was all good for Americans as well as constitutional. When Reagan spent money it was legal and through compromise unlike Obama shoving partisan crap down our throat like obamascare

Guns & Butter baby, learn it

I was only a kid during Reagan's administration, but if I had been older, would there have been a place for people like me who didn't want my (illegally) confiscated wealth spent on the MIC?

What if I didn't consent to having my tax money spent like that? What if I didn't consent to having my money taken from me at all? Would I still be considered an American?

Or would it be my "civic duty" as an American to fund the military-industrial complex and all the cronies that run it? You know, the collective over the individual and all...

I never consented to ObamaCare, either, by the way.

Yeah, I can see how "Mr. Gorbechev, tear down this wall" ended communism in the Soviet Union.

If it looks like BS, and smells like bs, then it must be bs...and you''re standing hip-deep in it, Harrier. You buried the needle again.

Coolidge is the best POTUS of the 20th century, and he was only fair to middling. The last great POTUS was Cleveland.

-In 1980, the federal government spent $591 billion. In 1986, the federal government spent $990 billion, an increase of 68%.
-In 1980, federal spending as percent of GNP was 21.6%; in 1986, it was 24.3%.
-In 1980, the deficit was $74 billion; by 1984, when Reagan had promised to achieve a balanced budget, it was $200 billion.

Reagan signed FIVE tax increases, including the largest in history in 1982. He expanded excise taxes. He raised tariffs and imposed import quotas. He supported bailouts. He signed CARB into law.

He massively increased spending on the War on Us, aka the "War on Drugs."

He strengthened the Departments of Energy and "Education," despite his promise to eliminate them. He strengthened OSHA.

But worst of all...he bailed out Social Security instead of letting it die like it should have.

Read Rothbard's classic evisceration of the Reagan legacy:

Ronald Reagan: An Autopsy by Murray N. Rothbard
And lets not forget how he armed Iraq and Iran, not to mention all the scandals of his Presidency, they make Obama's scandals look like childs play.
