A country sitting on an ocean of oil and the people have to put up with this. People should be wiping with dollar bills. Instead they have to put up with this crap. Liberals are probably rejoicing.

CARACAS, Venezuela First milk, butter, coffee and cornmeal ran short. Now Venezuela is running out of the most basic of necessities — toilet paper.
Blaming political opponents for the shortfall, as it does for other shortages, the embattled socialist government says it will import 50 million rolls to boost supplies.
That was little comfort to consumers struggling to find toilet paper on Wednesday.
"This is the last straw," said Manuel Fagundes, a shopper hunting for tissue in downtown Caracas. "I'm 71 years old and this is the first time I've seen this."
One supermarket visited by The Associated Press in the capital on Wednesday was out of toilet paper. Another had just received a fresh batch, and it quickly filled up with shoppers as the word spread.
"I've been looking for it for two weeks," said Cristina Ramos. "I was told that they had some here and now I'm in line."
Economists say Venezuela's shortages stem from price controls meant to make basic goods available to the poorest parts of society and the government's controls on foreign currency.
"State-controlled prices — prices that are set below market-clearing price — always result in shortages. The shortage problem will only get worse, as it did over the years in the Soviet Union," said Steve Hanke, professor of economics at Johns Hopkins University.

If the people of Venezuela practiced the Sheryl Crow idea of using only one square of paper, they wouldn't have run out of toilet paper. Who said she was an idiot suggesting such a thing?

Frankly bidets are more hygenic and do a better job anyway. The government needs to stop subsidizing paper corporations and mandate that all households use bidets instead.

Greens will say it waste water. We use to keep old Sears Robuck Catalogs in our outhouse so we were always ready for anything. Now they charge for the things. We ordered 3 donkeys out of them one year, they came in on the train in downtown Atlanta.

In India the poor carry a cloth that they rinse out and reuse. In the former soviet union toilet paper was a luxury. I believe they simply walked about holding the cheeks of their ass tight.

Well --- the people of Venezuela voted for this government -- so they deserve exactly what they're getting.

Latin American nations are very rich in natural resources and many of them have elections and democracies but they lack intelligent voters.

Yes I'm sure the former bus driver and union leader Maduro ran a squeaky clean ten day campaign to win the election. lol I believe he won by around 1%. Things could be changing in that dump and for the better if the people get fed up. Or they will be cracked down on we shall see. No TP could be the final straw!!

They won't fix it -- you can be sure that many are now packing their bags and heading to the USA where they will know there is plenty of toilet paper, food stamps, free medical care and like anything, if they can't afford the toilet paper, there will be a new government program to buy it for them.

All they have to do is claim that someone back home smacked them once or was mean to them and they will be given a U visa -- which is a fast way to get on government handouts. Or get pregnant and get over here in time to give birth on USA soil which is a very sure way of being allowed to not only stay but get on all the foodstamps, Medicaid, Section 8 housing.

Or they can claim they are being persecuted by the government and get refugee assistance and status here -- and like with the Cubans, that can go on indefinitely -- even after Castro no longer can stand on his own two feet, you won't see anyone try to overthrow him. It's just much easier to get to the USA for the good easy life.
