Right across the street from our mall an 85,000 sq. ft. Fallas Paredes store plans goes to in an old Mervyn's building. My argument is that the store will detract from downtown being successful, it is not consistent with tie city's downtown specific plans for "restoring downtown as the historic city center", it will steal business from other stores, and attract the wrong type of shopper for our area.
I have already emailed both big newspaper companies to make a announcement about when the council will be hearing the issue.
I intend to go on and speak and bring up some good points. I had an idea of going to mall businesses and asking if they would take a random survey on what they think about the Fallas store going in? I could even go to other nearby businesses and start asking.
The planning commission narrowly approved it 3-2.
I suggest as the alternative to declare eminent domain and the city buy the land and turn into a public use. The mall is just starting to come back with a movie theater under construction.
Well I guess you should go post this in your state/city sub forum.
I didn't even know what that store was and had to look it up.
Sounds like it's a Big Lots that caters to the Hispanic group.
Could be worse..imagine a huge Dollar General.
Do you think sending out mall surveys would be a smart way to go about?
