There is no question that what happened in Sandy Hook was a horrific tragedy. Through donations $15 million had been raised for Newtown. It was announced that the Department of Education, through a Federal grant under SERV, will now issue a $1.3 million for the city of Newtown, which has a total of 7 public schools.
I get it - lives were lost. What I don't get is why is Newtown receiving the largest grant since SERV was established (see link below)? Although, I tend to think that this was some kind of reward for Newtown residents supporting a certain individual who took the show on the road stomping for gun control, but I could be wrong.

Education Department Giving Newtown $1.3 Million Grant
Newton has 7 public schools and several parochial and private schools, which I would think would not be entitled to federal money. Three states, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and one city, New York City, received a combined total of $3 million from SERV as a result of the destruction due to Hurricane Sandy.
Should be interesting to see what SERV allocates to Oklahoma where there was death and destruction.
