I can see that happening with him because as someone who has never served in the military, he's just not accustomed to saluting. Not trying to make an excuse for him but that's my thought.
Any idiot KNOWS he was told "you better get back out there and do or say something Sir....QUICK" by an assistant or adviser. He didn't do it on his own. The suggestions in this thread that he 'realized he messed up' and went back out to shake his hand and save face are laughable.

When does a superior Officer have to return a salute to a Non-comm? I dididn't see this Marine snap a salute to his superior (The most superior a Marine can have) as he approached. He just stood there like a cigar store indian. If he had pulled this stunt to a superior officer let alone a Marine Col or Brigadier he would have been put on KP if lucky the brig if not so lucky.
Eh. Have to admit, not a big deal. Yes he screwed up but he came back to the Marine and shook his hand. Technically, he shouldve just gone back an saluted if you want to stick by the book, but he realized he missed it and tried to make up for it. As much as I despise him, there is nothing here to be upset about.

You know how many troops have died under this new warmonger,even more than the last one? Then he has the nerve to not salute them,its getting to where this ego maniac is losing it or he knows something is about to happen where he takes over totally.
How many special forces have died under insane or mysterious ways? Wonder when they will remember their oath? After the last one falls? What a nation we live in now.

This guy sickens me. You know that on his own he didn't go back out to shake the Marine's hand, he was likely told it was a good idea to do so once he shunned him the first time. For being "so brilliant" how is it that everyone in his administration is so darn stupid and irresponsible regarding details of events that take place under their watch.
He is above the law according to this he also breaks marine code of dress,Wonder why the marines did'nt refuse to obey another one of his illegal orders?Marines are not allowed to carry an unbrella while in uniform.Unless they are a woman in certain circumstances only,but a male can't do this.
I'm sure he walks past Marines 20 times a day, I think we can forgive him neglecting to salute every once in a while, especially in a case where he clearly realized what he did and took the time to come back and apologize. I don't like Obama, but that seems pretty classy, dare I say it - Bush like - even.
There are plenty of other, bigger, things he's done to rake him over the coals for.
Especially since this Pres. has little or no respect whatsoever for them or what they stand for. If he wasn't carrying the title Pres., he would likely show no respect to them at all.
