We aren't going to survive as a competitive nation if we don't take care or replace our infrastructure.
We're in the process of building another new bridge in WA to cross Lake Washington, which separates Seattle from its Eastside suburbs. The old bridge has reached the end of its useful life.

The old bridge cost $34 million in 1963. That's $245 million, inflation adjusted to today's dollar. The new bridge is projected to cost $4.5 billion, or about 18 times more. This in spite of 50 years of engineering advances. The computer age had barely dawned in 1963. The state spent $400 million on studies before even starting work on the new bridge. $400 million spent before cement poured for new 520 bridge | KING5.com Seattle

So much for your point.

The U.S. spends something like 6 times as much as any other country on military spending. Totally 100 % unnecessary. Maybe we could reduce that to 4 times as much. Besides it's not "defense", it's offense, the U.S.A. swooping into countries in the Middle East to kill innocent civilians.
Given how common it is, I'd guess it would go into the millions if not billions. One case alone would go into the tens of thousands, and this is something that happens all the time at the federal, state, and local level.

I actually agree with cutting military spending, but why not start with cutting items that are pure waste, and work our way down to cutting items that are basic gov't functions, such as military spending?

Obama got all that money for shovel ready projects.....the infrastructure has been rebuilt!!!!

oops! there were no shovel ready projects..he he... and the projects that did take place were replacing guard rails and such roadside facade.

So where is all that cash that was set aside for infrastructure repair??????

Better tell Obama bridges are falling down. I know he will get right on it. Oops! the EPA will require an environmental impact statement and delay any project 5 years.

As all dedicated funds end up in the general fund, no amount of money directed toward infrastructure repair will ever be available for infrastructure repair.

Any politician who asks taxpayers for more money for road and bridge repair is to be consider a liar of low moral character.

All those studies are just more pork. Taxpayer dollars being channeled to those who are 'well connected'.

Didn't Obama get many billions of dollars to do some "stimulus" which would have created jobs and should have got something fixed?

He squandered all that money. Instead of handing the jobless free money, why didn't Obama emuluate FDR and have them report for work and be handed shovels?

FDR was a liberal -- but even those government work programs as inefficient as they were got something done. Today the unemployed aren't expected to do anything. All the billions spent on unemployment extensions the past few years could have gotten all kinds of new bridges built.

Thousands of bridges at risk of freak collapse

The crossings are kept standing by engineering design, not supported with brute strength or redundant protections like their more modern counterparts. Bridge regulators call the more risky spans "fracture critical," meaning that if a single, vital component of the bridge is compromised, it can crumple.
..
About 18,000 fracture critical bridges were built from the mid-1950s through the late 1970s in an effort to complete the nation's interstate highway system, which was launched under President Dwight Eisenhower, LePatner said in an interview. The fracture critical bridge designs were cheaper than bridges designed with redundancy, he said.
Aweee everyone be soooo negative
There is ALOT of bridges all over the country currently being replaced or plan on being replaced.

Lafayette Bridge - MnDOT

Hwy 61 Hastings Bridge Project - MnDOT

Eastern span replacement of the San Francisco

The Ohio River Bridges Project of Kentucky and Indiana

11th Street Bridge Project - Anacostia Waterfront, DC DDOT

Goethals Bridge Replacement - The Port Authority of NY & NJ

Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement Project - About the Project

NCDOT: Bonner Bridge Replacement Project

WSDOT - SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program

Whenever a Democratic scandal unfolds or whenever Democrats want to raise taxes they start screaming about infrastructure, teachers, firemen and police.

It's as predictable as the sun rising.

How many people use bridges in this country everyday? How many die doing so?

Yeah, it's a major problem.

If you listened to liberals you'd think thousands die everyday in bridge collapses and fires. Or we're all getting shot because there are no police to protect us.

What a bunch of p*ssies the left is. Scared of everything. Just give us some more tax money. That 4 trillion a year we spend now aint enough.

Give us more of your money or you are a greedy racist that hates science.
