I saw the same thing in the constructor industry. Unless you knew someone you couldn't get into the unions.
Well, you won't have to worry about unions in the oil and gas sector!
Also - you really don't have to know someone to get into an entry level job in oil and gas - especially if you have your CDL and HazMat certifications. Heck, you'd be gobbled up and having to turn down jobs if you invest in those two items before you apply!
Both just take a few weeks to get. "Look Ma - no student loans!"
Except that when it was subsidized children who were economically closed out of college, but who were very smart, were able to attend college and live productive lives that not only benefited them, but the nation.
They had these things called scholarships back then and if you lived in a state say California which had a respected public university system you paid peanuts for top world quality. So much so a poor student could work while going to school and easily afford it.

Aaah but didn't winning a scholarship mean you had to work hard to get good grades? In other words scholarships had to be earned.
You lefties ruined it all by steadily voting for progressives who subsidized and guaranteed student loans.
You lefties ruined it all by steadily voting for progressives who kept raising taxes on businesses, forcing them to look for cheaper, less restrictive labor.
You lefties ruined it all by steadily voting for progressives who managed to make so many workplace rules and regulations that you can't just "walk across the street" and get hired.
You lefties ruined it all by steadily voting for progressives and the Utopia of "fairness", where EVERYONE should own a home....so they forced banks to make bad loans, flooded the housing market with new buyers and caused the housing market to go sky high.
You lefties ruined it all by steadily voting for progressives who spouted fairness over ability....look where we are today!

That is all. Thank you!
Somehow I don't think it was all just lefties that screwed everything up.
It seems whining is about the only subject this generation succeeds at...
Do something about your situation...Which is difficult advice since you are so brainwashed.
When we BBs went to school, the desks and schools and even the text books were decades old. Who is BS'ng who here?
Our teachers focused on the subjects of learning - history, math, science and geography...Never did they express an opinion about social problems...We were able to read, and we were informed by the news media...we made our own decisions of what was right or wrong. We read the paper and watched the news every day...and then went out of our house to actually talk with live people (not computer screens).
As someone already mentioned - thank the illegals for taking jobs from teenagers...they are doing the work teenagers would do at night or on weekends...For Crissakes we are actually giving work documents for people to mow lawns!!!...That's work for 15 year olds.
The one thing that I have a gripe about is that each and every young person should get the 1st two years of college for free. This would give them direction. Some could go to trade schools (the trades pay pretty well), or they can take liberal arts to prepare them for majors, if they choose to go on. The significance is that college is different from HS...you have to make up your own mind about your curriculum, and how you spend your time learning.
We just have to make sure the teachers teach the subjects...not dictate their opinions. Let the kids learn to think and exchange ideas...And if any teacher sides with one idea over the other, the teacher get's fired.
And that is how this new generation will learn to solve differences and problems...by talking them out freely and thinking on their own.
As for the money to pay for the first 2 years of college...We do not need sports stadiums in 2 year colleges, nor any other state school...If the parents want their kids to be superstars, let them pay.
And simple building and furnishings designs would be sufficient.
Also, I doubt if any responsible corporation or adult would argue about paying a few $$ more in taxes to invest in this country's future.

Brainwashed you say, Easier said than done I say. It is indeed easier said than done when it comes to being young. We just don't have a lot of money to do something. As for being whiners, there are boomers I can say are the same way.

I am sure this is still the case. The average age of a school is 40 years old in America. We also do not have the money to rennovate or make new schools.

I am sure people do watch the news on TV and/or read news online. Is it as much as past generations, not really.

This is actually a good idea and I agree.

I agree with this but we just want the lowest common denominator to graduate rather than move up the best.

You forgot to say reasonable. The issue is people complain that taxes take up too much already.
Not all so-called Boomers are corporate goons who sold out the nation and employed cheap slave labor in third world countries and by being greed driven ruined opportunity for American youth...Those people who damaged the economy also damaged the lives of millions of Boomers also...This generation and the Boomers are BOTH victims of these jerks...not all Boomers are your enemy.
Why would my dad and his friends lie about how easy it was to make money? What is the incentive? Instead of taking 1 or 2 companies public a year why are they only doing that many every 5 years?
Old men, sitting around BSing about the past, tend to misremember/exaggerate/embellish a lot of things. I know, I'm married to one.
