Higher wages means higher prices for meals and drinks...the consumer will pay one way or another.
At least this way you tip according to the level of service your server gives you
Doesnt really work that way in the real world though, because many places expect a tip regardless.
If u dont tip, u get attitude.
And again, why should the owner be let of the hook when it comes to the wages, can u answer that one?
It's not like the waiters/waitresses actually need the money.
Really? Most waiters/waitresses make LESS than minimum wage, and the tips help to offset the money that they would have earned if earning minimum wage. some days, when business is slow, they get no tips at all or are sent home early, so their "earnings" come out to less than what they would have earned on minimum wage.
The restaurant business is quite possibly the largest service oriented business in the free world. The owner of the business is able to insure better quality service from its employees, without needing to hold their hands if a majority of their income is based upon their level of service. The businesses with the best quality and service reputation pay far FAR higher than those that are of lower quality and service.
Let me put it to you this way. A person can take a 5-Star restaurant and turn it into a 1 or 2-Star facility in a matter of no time. All they have to do is put everyone on a standard hourly wage, being certain to not pay too much because there will be times that slow or no business is likely. So what happens when everything is on wage vs. being on tips? No one will want to work the shifts that have a lot of business, where they would have to work harder (but in turn make much better money if they are paid on tips) if they could choose the shifts when all they had to do was fill salt and pepper shakers. Why would they want to work harder if there is no reward? It makes no sense.
This is the most basic example of why when everyone gets an equal and fair distribution, and people are not rewarded for their individual effort, labor and individual effort in general are greatly reduced.
The free market works. Equal results for all does NOT work.
Not at all - plenty of restaurants thrive in other countries where there is no tipping.
So why carry on with this little scam?
and if the gas chambers was genocide then why wasnt Vietnam or Iraq
