Personally, as someone who home produces her own fresh, raw milk (goat), I would be very, very hesitant to sell my milk. In fact, I wouldn't, unless I knew without question the buyer was going to use it for something other than human consumption - soap, lotions, maybe to feed and/or supplement baby animals.
While I am comfortable with my sanitation practices and I have never had a problem, I would be terrified that all it would take would be for ONE person to get sick (and maybe not even from my product) and I could lose everything.
So, I will just keep my milk to myself - make my yogurt, cheese, puddings, etc. - and the dogs and cats will get the extra. At least I know the dogs and cats won't sue me if they get a bellyache.
A friend of mine has a licensed raw milk dairy (goat) and she jumps through all the hoops - site inspection, routine animal testing, milk test, she even carries "raw milk insurance." It costs her a lot of money to stay in business - she also sells her milk for $9.00 a gallon.
The idea that is is evil and sinister to have regulation governing milk production is preposterous. These regulation were put in place to protect the consumer from tainted dairy protects that used to cause illness and death.
The subject court ruling is rater narrow -- if one is a member of a food club, it's the same as self-manufacturing and thereby allowed. So those members are free to get sick as they choose.
Government regulation is totally out of control. We have way too many politicians who think a Nanny State is a good thing.
Just because the govt approves of something does not mean it's healthy. Just because something isn't inspected doesn't mean you will get sick.
Exactly. Just because the government approves of something doesn't make it good.
Licensing is totally over the top. Just because a barber has a license doesn't mean you will get a good haircut. There should be NO government regulation of barbers and dozens of other occupations.
You said you practiced "jury nullification", I'm guessing that you knew that this person was guilty of the crime, yet pushed for acquittal? You don't see the folly of jurors picking and choosing what laws they are going to convict on? You think that's a good thing?
Yes. Absolutely.
I can assure you that if I'm on any drug possession jury I will vote "not guilty".
You really want plumbers and housewives contemplating Constitutional law rather than making a black/white decision on the facts that they are presented with?
Yes. I think plumbers and housewives would do a better job than government bureaucrats.
I can assure you that if I'm on any drug possession jury I will vote "not guilty".
Yeah, and 99/100 times, you'll hang the jury, and they'll do it again without you, and waste double the tax money and everyone's time.
You'll also never be selected to be on a jury if you answer selection questioning honestly, which you are required to.
