Define "rape culture".

Rape culture? What is this rape "culture" you allude to? I guess country music fans are into "rape culture" as well.

What happened: A fan groped Tim McGraw's crotch during a concert on his and wife Faith Hill's headlining tour, prompting Mrs. McGraw to speak out about the incident when she took the stage. "Somebody needs to teach you some class, my friend," she told the fan. "You don't go grabbin' somebody else's, somebody's husband's [private parts], you understand me? That's very disrespectful."

Beyonce handled it very differently than I would have. I would have kicked him out,...
Hate to inject facts into a good rant, but he was in fact escorted out.

It isn't rape. It is representative of the overall cultural problem we have where random stangers (and people on the internet) seem to think they have "ownership" on other people's bodies without their consent.

With the general idea that it is "ok" to slap someones butt because they are shaking it to the beat, it doesn't take long to think that a woman who had a couple of drinks, wearing a miniskirt, walking home alone at night deserves to get rape. Because she should have been more careful. Instead of blaming the person who did it.

And yes, I do think that if women do it, it is also a problem. It is perhaps less common. Or less publicized. And frankly, with our culture, a man who claims they wwere raped, especially if said woman is conventionally attractive, would either be assumed to be lying or was "looking a gift horse in the mouth"

Here is my own post summing it up from a few weeks ago in another thread:

Rape Culture isn't only about rape. It is about how the general treatment of women can lead to small slights (like sexist comments and catcalls) and to actual rapes. The overall culture is a problem.

Let's not forget the followups to the Stubenville trial:
"Poor boys, their lives are ruined and they won't be able to go to college. What a shame for them." While there was little commentary on how the victim will have to deal with this for the rest of her life. And how her life was impacted.

Yes. Country fans do as well. It has nothing to do with race or class. Rape Culture is well-ingrained in the military, in sports institutions and basically anywhere you find people.

All the coverage I saw said he got to enjoy the show. It was only a threat it sounded like.

I am not sure what I find more appalling, the fact this guy thought it was appropriate to reach out and touch her butt. Or the comments on the coverage that say she deserved it because she was wearing a skimpy outfit.

And there you have:
1. victim blaming
2. people claiming rights/ownership to someone else's body because of how they are dressed
3. condoning of the behavior by the public at large (one article I saw had comments like, whoohoo great idea, I should have tried that too or other insulting comments about meeting her at the afterparty for some private time)
4. The never-ending refrain of "boys will be boys"

Disappointing to say the least.
well, seeing as Beyonce is little better than a , Im sure she did deserve it, probably craves this kind of attention anyway to help her sell records.

I don't care for either of their music, lyrics have nothing to do with it. I don't really pay much attention to either of them, I put them in the same category as most tabloid celebrities.

You dont actually listen to Jay Z's music, that was established the last time you and the conservatives on this forum attacked Jay Z and Beyonce.

A little research goes along way before attacking someone.
