See now this is something we can easily do. Audits. Stop chasing the dollar to make sure a recipient doesn't spend it on something you don't think they should, which won't do anything but add costs to an already bloated system, and STOP MAKING THESE ROOKIE MISTAKES. This kind of thing needs to be done all over. We all do it (or should) with our personal budgets, which is why we should "auto" every payment! It ought to be mandatory and regular for any entity that funds anything. THAT is where the real waste is.

You really think these people will repay back the illegal benefits they received?

Heck with the ACA. People don't even have to pay back the legally received subsidies if they are caught making more money than they claim cause its based on prior year income.

This is govt. ain't going to see a dime back with this audit.

The dead didn't collect a dime. Unless they are zombies or vampires.

Instead, someone living was collecting it on their behalf. Hopefully MA is looking into how to prevent this from happening, and other states are also taking note.

MA has been Dem for some time. It's not like they just took leadership in the state this year or something.

Can you point out where this is something that liberals actually say? Or is this yet another "liberal caricature that exists only in the minds of right wingers who listen to too much Glenn Beck" thing?
This is why it is good to spend money to pay for people to audit things like this to catch fraud at an early stage.

I agree. The FCC also completed an audit of the Lifeline program and 41% didn't qualify.
That's over $1 billion per year saved.

More like better late than never.

I think agencies need to do annual audits because greed, fraud and corruption occur all the time.
That would be catching it early..annual audits. Not a year after massive complaints have piled up and then uncover benefits being paid out to dead people for nearly 3 years. And offices not able to produce documents for over 30,000 EBT cards

I've been hearing about this type of thing for decades. They need more staff to investigate fraud. It would probably pay for itself.
