So are these people denied a fundamental civil right if they are prohibited from marrying a member of their own sex?

Marriage is a voluntary behavior. Who you are attracted to is not a voluntary behavior.
When Loving V Virginia was heard they made it legal to marry someone of a different race. Marrying someone of a different race is a voluntary behavior. Why can't people just marry someone of the same race?
Same thing, but insert gender. It is illegal to discriminate based on gender, so if there are laws and privileges that have to do with marriage, then they can't discriminate based on gender.

I don't understand people who cannot fathom a universe as complex as ours popping into being using the scientific theories that explain a non-god origin of the universe..... yet those same people can believe an all-knowing, all-powerful entity, who has always existed and who will always exist.... came into being.
