For every "poor" person there are two governmental employees that depend on that poor person for a job. The poverty industry is thriving.

SN: this isn't supposed to be an attack on Liberals or Conservatives, the Rich or the Poor but simply what the poor believe what can be done to actually help them become at least middle-class; therefore with the warning, troll posters will be reported.
Nothing hurts the poor more than the devaluement their labor caused by mass immigration. The single most important thing government could do to help the poor is to restrict immigration.

Exactly! The least the government should do is to enforce our immigration laws against those here illegally rather than promising them amnesty with 23 million Americans out of work. Legal immigration should be based on our needs and the ability to provide them with jobs and resources without denying those thing to our own citizens first. All this family unification needs to be curtailed also.

The government is the biggest employer in the country BY FAR!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe the government does not open businesses in the USA but they sure do here in Canada. We have government owned businesses in just about every sector of the economy. From telecoms to mining, oil and gas to insurance. If fact, the region of Canada that is doing the very best and I mean BEST with a capital B is Saskatchewan. My son in law is a welder there and last year he made $160,000. That is not rare at all and in fact there is a major shortage of ALL skilled tradesman. Anyway, Saskatchewan, politically is something an American could never get his head around. It's the most socialist of all the Canadian provinces. The government owns hundreds of large corporations and at the same time it's a very conservative place. Can you imagine it???? A conservative socialist government!!!! I really don't think an American could understand such a concept.

Anyway, what we have there is a government that tries to do the best for businesses. They are succeeding in that as big corporate interests are alway breaking down the door to get a piece of the action there. At the same time the same government does it's best for the everyday man in the street and all of the workers in the province. The unemployment rate for May 2013 was 4%.

It's impossible for an American state to replicate the across the board success that we see in Sask. The reason for that is American politics are BOUND by ideology that precludes doing what is best for everyone. There is such a lack of pragmatism, doing the correct thing just because it's correct is against all American political thought. The country is going down down down as a result. The divisions are getting wider, the dissatisfaction is getting greater by the day and NOTHING is accomplished in moving the country forward and in fact it has been going backward since the Clinton administration.
and I'm wondering why it is people believe the American government creates jobs.

There isn't a private government job. There maybe government contracts given to companies ie car makers (police cruisers) for specific needs of the government. And if I'm not wrong the military needs where met by companies in China. In WWII there were American made tanks. The contracts this go around went to companies in China.

There was one company (name slips my mind) in Ft. Worth, Texas in (oh lets see) 2002 (I think) that were given the contract for making the medal that underlines the belly of the tanks. I remember it because they needed workers and advertised and I lived in the area, so I saw the ad.

The government doesn't open business, however, they will award contracts to fit a specific need.

With that said, how does that happen to help the poor in this country?

If a poor man here thinks of a service he would like to provide the general population and he sets about to begin that, so as to get a leg up. The amount of money he would have to pay the government in the end, he'd be better off, flipping burgers at Burger King.

Now as for as Canada, I wouldn't have a clue to what the Canadian government provides for their citizens, because I don't live there.
