U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius reiterated Tuesday that she won’t intervene in the “incredibly agonizing” case involving a 10-year-old Pennsylvania girl who is waiting for a lung transplant.
Medical experts should make those decisions, said Sebelius, who was grilled by Republicans at a Congressional hearing about the situation involving Sarah Murnaghan, who has end-stage cystic fibrosis.
“I’m begging you … Sarah has three to five weeks to live. Suspend the rules until we look at this policy,” Rep. Lou Barletta, R-Pa., told Sebelius at a session of a House Education and Workforce Committee hearing.
I am a conservative physician. I can say, however, that providing a lung transplant to a CF patient (who is going to die anyway by age 25 or so, transplant or not) is a waste of an organ and the cost with it.
It has EVERYTHING to do with them and their policy when you put the government in between a doctor and patient. The government should have no role or say in this decision.
Guess the U.S. could sell organs to the highest bidders and call it a day.

I thought CF patients were living longer than that now...I read recently that the median age is late 30s.

The same can be said about providing a liver transplant to an alcoholic.
