From my understanding, the only thing being monitored is telephone numbers, not content of the conversations (no wiretapping).

So if you haven't been calling or receiving calls from sheikh mohammed khalid before he was captured, you don't have anything to worry about....

That just means the FBI, CIA etc are not doing a very good job protecting us as they should.
It is their job to go after those with malicious intentions, and not waste tax payers money monitoring trailer park retirees!

That doesn't really make much sense.

If you see known terrorist from Pakistan or wherever calling the same number, be it a trailer park or college dorm room, you'd hope the CIA/FBI are monitoring exactly who the terrorists are contacting and why.

It's shameful that newspaper in a foreign country found it.

We need this kind of journalistic approach from our local papers - St.Pete Times and Tampa Trib esp considering Verizon has the biggest operation in the Tampa area.

I thought this was common knowledge ?

There were whistleblower reports probably 7 or 8 years ago about the NSA setting up shop inside of AT&T's network for spying. I had just assumed that everyone knew that.

And didn't we all used to watch 24 (and root for CTU)? How do you think Chloe and Jack were able to get the bad guys?

Maybe the NSA needs to hire those two for a PR campaign.

This is what you get from a president that wants to take apart the constitution. Privacy on the constitution would not allow these invasions.
{The constitution} protects specific aspects of privacy, such as the privacy of beliefs (1st Amendment), privacy of the home against demands that it be used to house soldiers (3rd Amendment), privacy of the person and possessions as against unreasonable searches (4th Amendment), and the 5th Amendment's privilege against self-incrimination, which provides protection for the privacy of personal information.
The Right of Privacy: Is it Protected by the Constitution?

But Verizon and most of these Greedy companies were not around when that Constitution was signed! At this point our beloved Constitution is pretty outdated! It should probably just remain as a Historic doc in DC! This Constitution does not apply to Corporate America and y'all know it! Nor it protects the citizens in any way.
