The doctors are only saying that they can modify an adult lung to fit into a child's chest cavity, and that if the transplant is successful, the child's condition will improve. For a while. Until the cystic fibrosis ruins the new lung.
All this. Of course her doctors want to do their job and help their patient. It still doesn't mean she is the best candidate. If she is at the top of the list all of a sudden let's hear about those who were at the top before all this.

This whole thing reminds me of taking extraordinary measures with people with severe birth defects or the very sick elderly being treated aggressively just because the treatment exists. No one cares about pain or quality of remaining life, just treat, treat, treat everyone. Many people die earlier due to aggressive treatments, with more pain and suffering.

This transplant list makes (or used to) decisions of who BEST to treat. Now this is being disrputed because some judge doesn't like the medical criteria and some people can't face reality regarding terminal illness in kids.

You say this girl enjoys life and let her live (no matter how briefly), and let someone else die instead.

That's what you are saying.

I say that the transplant protocols were implemented to give the most people the best chances of long-term survival, and that while we need to constantly review those protocols and update them as science and medicine improve, that in the meantime we should follow those protocols. The protocols, after all, were written and implemented by doctors with the knowledge and experience of transplant medicine, and have always had an appeals system built into them.

Vivaciousness is not a medical criteria which is precisely why you and judges have no business interfering in these type of decisions.

Well I hope the family of the real Jack comes forward so you may see these are real people on the list, not holograms.

.. the reason they want to help this girl is because she is that sick and can benefit from a lung drastically.

Possibly, each case has its own challenges. It might also do better in the number 8 person on the adult list than the number 1 person on the list for some unforeseen reason. What if she is physically larger than the first adult on the list?

"CBS News spoke to a leading specialist who said these rules may be out of date and that there is no medical reason why a child cannot receive an adult lung if it is the right blood type and size, CBS News medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook reported Wednesday."

Dying girl added to adult lung transplant waiting list, boy also sues to be added - CBS News

"Her doctors believe they can perform a successful transplant with adult lungs."

You know perfectly well that Jack is real. We just don't know his name/gender/age. For all you know, it's a "vivacious" young woman. And you are advocating his or her murder no matter how hard you squirm with silly answers like the above.

Why do you want to murder that person, Taratova?

No, Jack was #1 on the adult donor list that just got bumped to #3.
You are defending that this girl deserves a lung more than Jack.

What about the boy in NYC that is now on the list. Did he get #1 or #2 spot ?
