It would be an issue for the very same reason Ron Paul came out against it from the beginning. He knew that the government wouldn't be able to resist abusing it.

So yeah, they'll trot it out there and say "We're just collecting numbers". And if we're dumb enough to roll over and accept this, then they'll go back in secret and start collecting DNA and everything else they can. This is our individual liberty, dies.

I'm not saying that the U.S. is Nazi Germany - far from it at this point. However, I always try to remind people of one simple thing. Nazi Germany did not start out as a totalitarian government; it started out as a democracy. It became a totalitarian regime when people in that democracy foolishly voted away their liberties, one by one. And in the name of security and national honor, they simultaneously voted for an aggressive warmongering regime, which then, in turn, needed 'security' measures to keep the state functioning.
Good point. People forget that Hitler was elected by popular vote.

For conservatives, this ploy is cynical, and it is all about President Obama. Understand that conservatives still support the war on terror, they still think the War in Iraq was a great idea, they still want indefinite detention, they still want GITMO to remain open, they still think that torture is a great idea, they still support the Patriot Act, etc.

Remember when conservatives were in charge the creation of homeland security, the freaking terrorist threat levels used to scare the crap out of the public, the freedom fries, the roasting of anyone who opposed any of these policies, that was ALL conservatives, they love the surveillance state. Now they are pretending they don't.

conservatives love all of those horrible policies, in fact they were conservative ideas pushed by conservatives.

Now they attempt all of this fear mongering to simply hurt President Obama, that is beyond cynical.
conservatives are liars.
Actually, your post is the lie. Did you forget that every Senator but one voted for the Patriot Act? Did you forget that Obama signed the Patriot Act renewal?

Your lies expose your ignorance.

The Obama Surveillance Revelations Are Pushing Liberals Over the Edge

The email went out shortly after midnight Thursday, a few hours after the news broke about the Obama administration's large-scale monitoring of Americans' cell-phone records: "You are being spied on."

It was sent by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, a leading liberal organization, to its list of supporters, and it asked them to sign a petition demanding an investigation of the cell-phone surveillance. "It's simply unacceptable," the email said.

As further revelations about domestic surveillance have emerged in recent days, the group has kept up the drumbeat. The response, PCCC officials say, has been overwhelming -- a sign of the widespread liberal anger at Obama over civil liberties.

IMO; its a serious violation of unreasonable search under constitution has defined by decades of rulings. Altho I think it maybe well intentioned in his and bush's mind as well as others ;its serious. Not like a police officer trying to apply complicated search ruling in the field. This is well thought out intent that does not meet the standards of rulings by long stretch .Police might solve and prevent numerous serious crimes and murders by applying these standards and save thousands of life in organized Mafia and drug related cases that cause so much violence daily.

This is a great post, but it will go over the heads of all those that think their party is better etc. Partisan BS will keep us divided while the powers-that-be just continue on with their BS. Democrats & Republicans are just 2 parts of our 1 party system.

The Republican Party is in no way whatsoever any better about this kind of stuff than the Democrats.

The main problem here is that people choose up sides as if their "team" is gonna fix things, and they believe the lies they are told from both parties. They allow themselves to be distracted by partisan BS and think it's somehow constructive. Meanwhile, the nation has been commandeered by special interest groups.

It seems to be too much for some.
I read that MoveOn.org isn't even addressing this. They are focusing on sexual assaults in the Military.

Well thank god someone is. Obviously sexual assaults in the military is not a big deal to some. The good old boys club in the military is finally being exposed. Sorry, I think that's rather important.
