Their title is not a union position, it's a regular position, they just happen to hold union office.
You don't know much about unions. Union reps are actual workers elected by their co-workers. My friend is a truck driver, drives trucks 60 hours a week, and he's a union rep also. His union rep time is minimal and it's done after he clocks out or on his lunch break. Union rep doesn't take 40 hours a week.
The article is bs.
From the article: "but they don't do work for the public. They work full-time for unions."
If you have irrefutable evidence to the contrary then present it.
Their title is not a union position, it's a regular position, they just happen to hold union office.
They are being paid for union duties while working, the only thing not defined here is how much work they are doing for the union while on official time.
Quote:
Federal law also requires that departments and agencies continue to pay the salaries of career employees who work on "official time" performing union duties.
Official time expenses are tracked government-wide by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. In its most recent report, OPM said the Department of Transportation paid more than $15.4 million in such costs in 2010, compared to $12.5 million in 2009.
The OPM report estimated that government-wide costs for official time exceeded $137 million, an increase of 6.42 percent over the preceding year.
So we're paying $137 million each year for union activities? pfffffft

A very conservative estimate done by a year long investigation by WAPO into farm subsidies showed a cost of 29 BILLION dollars as being paid out since 1998 to corporate farms with very little actually going to small farmers.
The cost of the Iraq/Afgan wars so far? 6 trillion and climbing by the second.
And on and on and on..yet,the repuke neoCONS want to pick their fights and things to whine about...seriously,get off the rwnj websites and turn your radios off and study for yourself on who votes for this big money crap and vote them the hell out.
I'm not for public unions either, but there are much bigger fish to fry than those buttholes.

Part of the problem is trying to argue that only one side does the things you don't like. Mention the QE programs which is nothing but a huge welfare program for Wall Street and you will find many willing to defend the administration.

There have been dozens upon dozens of threads attacking the foodstamp program, which actually is paid for in the farm subsidy bills you discussed.

Wait, you just criticized the spending on these programs and then in the very same paragraph you whined because people want them cut

I understand exactly what you are saying...the far left is no better than the far right...all coservative moderates and all right leaning dems(consider myself one of the latter) have their voices silenced and they are ran out of govt these days by the extremists from both wings...most Americans couldn't give two craps less about gay rights, abortion etc etc that the extremists from both parties use to wedge issue everyone apart...the ones that care about that stuff are the ones that have a dog in that fight but its all the parties talk about to bring into the limelight and keep the idiots fighting among themselves as the rape the nation...100 million is chump change and funds a day or two in Iraq and that money could've been spent a hell of a lot more wisely than a useless war...100 million is chump change compared to the money spent on gay rights....pick our fights with the REAL bullies and rapists of this country, not the little nerd sitting in the corner...when you've kicked the bully's ass, then worry about the guy stealing your lunch money from your locker...jmho.
