A large majority of Americans say the federal government should focus on investigating possible terrorist threats even if personal privacy is compromised, and most support the blanket tracking of telephone records in an effort to uncover terrorist activity, according to a new Washington Post-Pew Research Center poll.
Fully 45 percent of all Americans say the government should be able to go further than it is, saying that it should be able to monitor everyone’s online activity if doing so would prevent terrorist attacks. A slender majority, 52 percent, say no such broad-based monitoring should occur.
Overall, 56 percent of Americans consider the NSA accessing telephone call records of millions of Americans through secret court orders “acceptable,” while 41 percent call the practice “unacceptable.” In 2006, when news broke of the NSA’s monitoring of telephone and e-mail communications without court approval, there was a closer divide on the practice — 51 percent to 47 percent.
I can't help but fear for the future of this country.
Obama wants Democratic control of the house in 2014. That is why he is constantly out fundraising. That is his only goal during the first 2 years of this term. Yes, once in awhile you will hear him say jobs but that is when you know he is worried, then right back to fundraising. If you really fear the future of this country think 2014.
Maybe the whistleblowing on the NSA was just a beta test on the American people? A way to gauge how deeply brainwashed Americans are on the issue of national security and their willingness to give up their freedom.
Its interesting to look at who among the media and talk radio, liberals and conservatives ostensibly diametrically opposed politically are lining up to condemn the whistle blower and to support giving the government complete power.
Not surprisingly that pinch faced MSNBC socialist authoritarian Lawrence Odonnell condones whatever the government does, but conservative talker Lars Larsen was also trying to pretend to ride the fence and say it was necessary if unfortunate.
The compromised americans will condemn the Whistleblower, the true americans will support him. Maybe the truly stupid will still think the government isn't capable and guilty of complete corruption.
I think this says it all "But with a Democratic president at the helm instead of a Republican, partisan views have turned around significantly." "The reversal on the NSA’s practices is even more dramatic. In early 2006, 37 percent of Democrats found the agency’s activities acceptable; now nearly twice that number — 64 percent — say the use of telephone records is okay" People are sheep and turn this into a partisan issue, when its not. I don't think "most" americans supports this. At best 50/50.
Let me be the first to say it: Its because there's a (half) black man in the White House.
When it was a Texas Cowboy spying and prying, the second incarnation of Hitler was amongst us.
Most Americans fell along partisan lines on the issue then and now. The fact is the majority of Americans are stupid and/or don't care, which is why they're so easily lead.
