How exactly is he a "carpetbagger?"

I'd think a person who spent almost his entire youth in a given state can rightfully call it his home state.

The term is not a strict inference, just an analogy.

He's an elitist educated at Harvard, and about as texan as sushi.

Bush is an opportunistic carpetbagger groomed for public office. He is as much a southerner as a freshly relocated yankee in the sun belt.

It also makes him appear folksy and more conservative even when approving massive socialist programs while taxing the middle class to death (even his inflation tax is opportunistic because you can't say it's actually a direct tax on the people). Pretending to be pro-life and religious also help to offset his fiscal liberalism.

Karl Rove has taught him well.
I think that Jeb was the one that was supposed to be groomed. The family couldn't figure out what to do with their Wonderboy, so they gave him to Kaptain Karl to give him a "project". Jeb left Texas because his mamma couldn't accept his beautiful wife and their brown kids. Sad huh?

The Bush family are carpetbaggers from the patrician east coast ... there's oil in Texas and they followed the smell.

The accent is real ... it's "folksy" ... ugh!

I honestly think that W hates being president. I think the dream job for him would be commissioner of major league baseball. Who knows, he can't be worse than Selig right?

I've actually read in the Economist once that being president is a stepping stone job. You know, that thing you have to do to get to do what you REALLY want to do.

I didn't realize "Harvard educated" and "Texan" was an either/or proposition. If it is, it's a damn stupid one, and it strikes me as being "elitist" in its own right.

I'd like to think that if one is educated at Harvard he or she isn't forbidden to return to Texas. Are there any other educational institutions one cannot attend and subsequently move or return to your fair state?

Point I'm making is that he's not what people think he is. It goes beyond faking an accent.

His folksy personality is completely fake but garnered lots of pseudo-conservative votes.

Like I've said before, Karl Rove is a brilliant marketer. The idiot savant of the political realm.

He can do whatever he wants to do, but his actions don't fool me into thinking he's Texan.

His accent is as phony and empty as he is and this is a non-issue. With all the destruction this "man" has wrought his accent doesn't register on his Richter scale.

I think President George Bush Jr's accent is phoney. It is just a way to make him seem like someone from the south, so he will seem more like a regular Joe. I would like to hear from people who understand accents. Is it possible President Bush's accent is real if none of his parents and siblings have an accent?
That would be stupid of him to fake a southern accent.
