When did mom and pop ever sell anything they manufactured themselves? Rarely other than perhaps a grower market.

The way a large part of the economy works is that there are harvesters of raw material, refiners of raw material, and sellers of said refined material.

Well, never, but to hear some tell it, Walmart is doing something heretofore unheard of!

The " big box" has the economies of scale going for it which is why most mom and pop cannot compete.

Mom and Pop means small or family owned to me.
That is who they put out of business.
Your mileage may vary.

Walmart for example carries cheap particle board desks, shelves, nightstands that fall apart after a couple years made in China. You are just as well to buy high quality the first time because you are only giving your money away again and again to some the parasites that are just fine with it.

You don't find many family owned furniture stores anymore like you used to.

The consumer / small business has been squeezed on both sides where they cannot afford it anymore and now all we have in this country is rotten junk made by commie chinese and sold by traitorous parasites that want to squeeze as much as they can out of everyone with the blessing of politicians.

They just have to find their Niche in quality, service or a specialized product.

7-11's don't shut down because of WalMart and charge twice as much for their products.

There is a lot to be said for convenience. 7-11 doesn't sell the things that wallmart sells though.

Walmart's compensation (wages+benefits) are in line with the retail industry. Why single them out instead of going after everyone or merely raising minimum wage?

Is Walmart an easy Bogeyman to avoid real substance? Hence the constant counting of Social Security paychecks as "subsidies to Walmart" from semi-retired workers who are merely looking to work part time to stay a bit active or supplement their SS check.

In fact, Walmart is far more above average in employees owning stock -- something that has been very beneficial to most of those shareholder employees.

If Walmart was forced to pay its workers more, would it not seek to keep its 3.62% profit margin and therefore charge more for its products - costing the public in the check out lane?

Some studies have shown that Walmart compensates slightly better than Target when looking at all benefits - yet why do so many accept Target while chastising Walmart?

Is it not the goal of Meijer, Target, etc... to do what Walmart is doing, it is just that Walmart is better at the game? In fact, is it not true that Walmart modeled its business practices after Meijer and beat them at their own game?
