Under Obamacare, employers face insurance mandates and noncompliance penalties once they have 50 or more "full time equivalent" (FTE) employees. The concept of FTE has existed for a long time in government regulations and union contracts, so it's no surprise was included in Obamacare.

Employers still have to cover employees working at least 30 hours a week if their total FTE is at least 50 - it's the "part-timers" who will not be insured by the employer.

Scheduling employees fewer than 30 hours a week does not necessarily give employers a pass; employers will have to pay a penalty for every employee who receives an insurance subsidy through the state exchanges...

...except that non-citizens (e.g. undocumented workers, illegal aliens) are not eligible for subsidies...which means that under the Senate immigration bill, once undocumented immigrants are given a path to citizenship, employers will have a huge incentive to hire these newly documented immigrants over citizens...because the immigrants will not be able to become citizens for 13 years (touted by supporters of the bill) and therefore they will be a lot cheaper for employers to hire, as the immigrants will not trigger any Obamacare penalties or requirements for the employer.


"Under the existing Senate immigration bill, immigrants who have been in the United States illegally can obtain a provisional legal status ... But this population would have to wait at least 13 years to be able to obtain full citizenship, and it isn’t until then that they could qualify for [the ObamaTax benefits]."

The net effect of this little lovely is that employers will have major economic incentives "to hire newly legalized immigrants over American citizens" because the former won't count against them in ObamaTax mandate calculations.

Once they become LPRs then they can apply for pretty much anything but 5 means tested welfare programs and vote.

It's not quite true they are not eligible for social programs.
The bill specifically lists 5 programs. We have 83 means tested programs.
There's only 5 they cannot apply for.

Yes it is always what we ARE NOT TOLD that lets them slide stuff by until it is too late to stop it. People with an agenda will never present the complete information about anything.

As with a lot of things that have to do with slippery slopes, apocalyptic predictions, and the like, I very high;y doubt we're going to see mass firings of American citizens if they are amnestied. ObamaCare is also not going to cause the doom and gloom predicted by the right as well. After inserting myself to the tea party/Libertarian wing of the political spectrum for the past 2 years, I've concluded that the truth rests in the middle somewhere, and that most of that the far right and far left say is a bunch of hot air designed to scare and feed the media advertising machine (and to shore up each party's base)

there will not be mass firings and immigrants will take jobs away from citizens without mass firings.

low-wage jobs generally have high turnover, so employers will take advantage of attrition to transform their workforces. low-wage workers will be forced to find protection in what's called "job lock" where people stay at crappy jobs because the jobs have something (formerly health insurance, under immigration reform, the job itself) they might not be able to regain if they gave it up.

women will be the big losers here if they quit jobs to have children and then try to get another job. men will have to just keep working and won't have the luxury of jumping from one crappy job to another crappy job.
