Nope, that was just a stupid comment from Al Gore.
Actually, I think Gore's comments have probably consistently been misrepresented/misinterpreted:
Quote:
Al Gore did not say he invented the internet. On 9 March 1999, during an
interview with Wolf Blitzer of CNN, Gore was asked what were the differences
between himself from his opponent in the race for the nomination for President
in 2000. His answer was misphrased and while it might sound like he was taking
credit for the internet, he was indicating that he supported economic conditions
in the US that would allow such new developments as the internet to take place
in American society.
So corporations track you online, all your spending habits, and everything about you, but the moment the government does same thing, you guys freak out. This has been an issue ever since the creation of technology. Who ever thought they could truly be anonymous on the internet as they order random crap online.
There's a bit of a difference between a corporation tracking a user and the government compiling accessible data on a user.
A corporation can use the data to create products and/or sales. The government can use the data to create a scenario that can put you in prison.
Unless of course, you're an actual perp. In that case, score one for the corporation in the success column.
That discloser may actually harm foreigners using American company service if they gave the information. A much large number of foreign overall use their service than American. they will just skip American companies often of the feel their being spied on. More and more are responding to privacy even on no government spying. Companies rushing to disclose what they gave for a reason has this can move quickly and even then some will not believe.
The fact that all of these companies know so much about us it because we tell them all about us.
Who among us has stopped shopping online or posting pictures of where we went on vacation, despite all of the targeted advertising and spam that shows up in our in-boxes and Facebook feeds as a result?
Does anyone really believe that people are going to stop giving Facebook, Google, et al. data that they can sell to the highest bidder just because we now know that in addition to cross-sharing it with Walmart and Amazon and QVC they also shared it with the NSA?
Okay, I just finished reading the linked article. My response: Edward Snowden just might have destroyed the internet (not that I think that would happen because of this). President Obama didn't originate the data collection protocol which pre-dates his ascention to office.
Shamrock dates back to 1945 when government read all inbound/outbound telegrams. Who knew?
And who do Liberals champion with "inventing" the internet?
Either way, Corporations and Government are co-conspirators in this... Bureaucracy is a b*tch.
If you don't like/trust the internet, maybe you shouldn't be POSTING here.
NO ONE is MAKING you do so.
