Can you please stop trying to make every single thread about partisan warfare and actually talk about the issues? This is about what is good for the country, not about trying to one-up one political party, as you seem to want to do above all else in every thread.

Here is one person who doesn't want it to go away.

Quote:
'Patriot Act, one was part of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, and all are set to expire at the end of this month." But! But! But! Here's the thing about this that might give you some hope: "The House voted 277-148 to keep the three provisions of the USA Patriot Act on the books until Dec. 8.

"But Republicans brought up the bill under a special expedited procedure requiring a two-thirds majority," and it was that two-thirds majority, Randy, that the vote was seven short of. Now, the Republicans lost 26 of their own members, adding to the 122 Democrats who voted against it," and some of the Republicans say that they 'felt completely uniformed by their leadership' on this. Some of the rookies, some of the freshmen say they were not really advised about all this in time -- and the leader of the opposition was Dennis Kucinich. Now, something tells me here that Republicans do not intend to vote with Dennis Kucinich, 'cause he's aligned with the ACLU opposing extending the whole thing, the whole Patriot Act. So if Kucinich is for it, "all rational people" ought to be against it.

Sorry if this hits a nerve. This entire Patriot Act is a Republican baby. Liberals have been fighting it for years. Where have you been the past 12 years? Welcome on board.

Conservatives were also fighting to rein in the Patriot Act, so just stating that only liberals opposed it is being disingenuous.

We were for it, when the program was only known to allow government to target known terrorists overseas, and monitor all calls and communications going in and out of either their phones or computers. We were also fine with it under Obama, when we thought the Patriot Act and NSA surveillance still worked that way.

Yes, I saw this and he is a lier, if he didn't listen to the content of phone calls, then what the heck are they doing it for????? Geeze Louise....

But that's what they told you.
The written law gave them blanket authority to do what they wanted.

It pays to not take what is told to you at face value and verify for yourself.

They also monitor chat sites and blogs. Hell, they monitor this board.. You can rest assured that if you post anything that has been deemed anti government, you have been scrutinized.

US government has been reading emails, chats etc.

For those assigned to do it that would have to be one of the most boring jobs ever invented.

I recently read about an agent (don't remember which gov't agency that he was with) assigned to monitor a school teacher's every move (for some reason). He eventually committed suicide, the job was so boring.

Exactly what is different about it now?

Clue: nothing! The only difference is we have a black, democrat president!

Again, where have you been the past 12 years, in a coma?
