Exactly. So why did politicians receive death threats for disagreeing with Bush's war plans? Why were those that dared to voice an opposing opinion called traitors etc.

I am all for free speech, but I do believe schools should educate, not indoctrinate. Give the information on all the religions, but do NOT endorse one and force it down people's throat.

and to add to that, respect those people that chose to NOT believe that there is a god. There is no PROOF that there is a god, so until there is scientific proof, this is about personal beliefs.

Hey -- I respect every nut I meet, until I find out if he's armed.

well, that's not what this thread is about...
But I don't have a problem with people's beliefs, as long as they respect others beliefs too. Personally - my motto would be : leave me alone and I'll leave you alone.

(I won't zing ya. I'm just interested to know.)
Such a poster as I described wouldn't remind you of "Big Brother is Watching You," or something like that? Except it would be "Big God Is Watching You," with Uncle Sam making his "I Want You -- To Trust In God, As Otherwise Thou Art Not WE" pose.

But the only Orwell book I've read was Animal Farm.

Yeah, right. That's really original...

Seriously, just for a moment: try some of his essays -- especially "The Prevention of Literature", "Politics and the English Language", and my personal favorite "The Moon Under Water." I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

So your conclusion is that the rules only apply to whatever type of government agency existed at the time the Constitution and Bill of Rights was drafted and ratified? So does that mean the department of defense does not need to be restricted by the Constitution? What about the department of health or the department of education? After all, that’s what your conclusion implies.

So this conclusion means that a state can violate someone’s right to privacy, can detain without cause or censor any speech because the Constitution only applies to federal action. Wow, you really need to go back and study the Constitution and history a lot more.

Have you had a chance to read article VI?

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land;

What about the 14th amendment and how it was “to prohibit any State from depriving any person of liberty without due process of law, and that Amendment imposed the same substantive limitations on the States' power to legislate that the First Amendment had always imposed on the Congress' power.”

Did you forget about that one?

For me it wasn't a choice. I couldn't choose to believe in god no matter how hard I try...because I just don't believe. I'm not completely closed off to the possibility that god/gods exist, but right now I don't believe and don't see the lack of belief as optional.
