What secrets were those? And when did he swear? Nobody swears to protect criminal activity by the government.

Most oaths are to uphold the constitution, not the government. There is a huge difference.

If they have to violate our constitutional rights to catch a criminal, I would prefer that they not catch the criminal.

A hero doesn't run from danger. Which rules out that designation. If you ever read Thoreau's essay on civil disobedience he said if you feel a law is unjust, break it. But be willing to pay the penalty. Thoreau himself was imprisoned for refusing to pay a tax he felt unjust. (Though only a day when someone paid it for him).

The only one to protect you from the government is another government.
