Haar!

You do realize your border guards behave in exactly the same manner and to your own citizens also.

And to quote you from an earlier post; "I witnessed it first hand" after a bunch of Americans went into Mexico to buy cheaper drugs at Algodonez and upon their return to the U.S. were given a complete beatdown on the issue of buying drugs and attempting to carry them across the border on behalf of their wives, friends, family members who were not present regardless of the fact they had the scripts with them.

That would have been fun to watch but for the fact YOUR stupid border morons were over the top insultingly nasty to them and made them leave all of those drugs sitting there on the counter.. Canadians with their passports and Mexicans with no papers were allowed to march right through with their armloads of booze because YOUR border goons were too busy busting on their own citizens.

See now, if you had a "special" country; you wouldn't have to sneak out of it to buy drugs you can't afford at home, they'd be provided by a special health care package.

As to shutting your border to prevent Canadian snowbirds from coming down and spending their money. Sounds like a smart idea to me. Tell Florida for one, you're cutting off the single biggest foreign source of property buyers there has been in the last 60 years and see how they react. I'll throw a for sale sign on my home in Florida and forego paying property taxes and all the other stuff down there and move on over to one of the Caribbean Islands or even Cuba instead and get an even bigger bang for my retirement dollar with a maid thrown in. Come to think of it that might be a good idea to also not have to go through all of that TSA groping my jewels crap just to fly into your "crappy" country.

It's the weather dude; it ain't about the wonderful culture! You ain't the only game in town for better weather and better culture to boot.

There now, was that the type of bellicose answer you were seeking with your inane, retarded offering? Lemme know if it suffices or not, 'cause I can sure ramp it up a notch if needed.

Strong border controls actually benefit Canada more than many people appreciate. To cite one example, Detroit had 386 murders last year and nearby Windsor, Ontario had two. Adjusting for population differences (705,000 in Detroit city vs. 211,000 in Windsor), Detroit is 58 times more murderous.

If you were a Canadian, you really wouldn't want to open the border to that kind of thing. Nor would the US want to open up the El Paso-Juarez or Brownsville-Matamoros borders, for similar reasons.

Look at the demographics. What particular group of people do you find in massive numbers in Detroit that you don't see in Windsor? Hmm...any guesses?

Some of you are missing the point completely... Which is that you should be able to drive to/from USA and Canada just like you can drive from Ohio to Indiana or Ontario to Quebec, without having to stop and be harassed by someone along the way.

What is the difference between driving from Maine to New Hampshire and Maine to New Brunswick? There isn't. What is the difference between driving from Washington to Oregon or Washington to British Columbia? There isn't. So why should you get harassed on one border and not the other?

There is no good reason to support the current border checkpoints. Literally none.

I beg to differ. There's a VERY good reason. It's a whole 'nother country. We don't want your problems.

Open the border and in ten years Canada would look like parts of Detroit - a ghost town.

The border isn't there to keep Americans out of Canada - it's there to keep Canadians IN Canada.

Canada has 35 million people receiving services. According to their own bean counters they need 60 million to keep things solvent. They don't have enough Canadians even with immigration. Tax rates will rise and if they had the option, they would split.

So the solution to a problem whereby we're providing services to, as you say, 35 million people will be solved by offering services to 60 million people?
