Why would the canucks want to glom onto a failed, centralized educational system?
There are about 14,000 unique school district governments in the U.S. The cost to administer these unique districts is primarily paid for via state and/or municipal property taxes.
I assume this will gradually work in favor of the English-speaking community as French is spoken in very few countries producing potential immigrants
No, there are a lot immigrants here who are francophone. They speak French in quite a few countries aside from France. We have a lot of immigrants from Africa and the Middle East.
As to shutting your border to prevent Canadian snowbirds from coming down and spending their money. Sounds like a smart idea to me. Tell Florida for one, you're cutting off the single biggest foreign source of property buyers there has been in the last 60 years and see how they react.
In May, 2013 the Miami Association of Realtors said nearly 60% of all sales last year throughout the area were to buyers from foreign countries. Destinations in Florida are particularly popular for buyers from Canada, Sweden and Brazil.
Canada would only lose with such a union. We have everything...the gold, the diamonds, the oil, the lumber, the minerals, the fresh water and other vast resources.
The US would benefit. However, the US has nothing we want or need.
And; don't forget the vast tracts of land that will eventually become more than just desirable if all the "global warming" pundits are to be believed.
We'll be inundated to an even greater extent with American SUNBIRDS than they are with Canadian snowbirds. We'd better start building those Casinos now before the flood ensues.

Look at the demographics. What particular group of people do you find inmassive numbers in Detroit that you don't see in Windsor? Hmm...any guesses?
A: Poor people
Windsor's economy is primarily rooted in manufacturing and tourism.
Chrysler Canada is based in Windsor. Ford has several engine plants in Windsor.
Tourism increasingly includes medical tourism by U.S. people seeking more affordable quality medical and dental services for which they pay out of pocket.
Some of you are missing the point completely... Which is that you shouldbe able to drive to/from USA and Canada just like you can drive from Ohio to Indiana or Ontario to Quebec, without having to stop and be harassed by someone along the way.
What is the difference between driving from Maine to New Hampshire and Maine to New Brunswick? There isn't. What is the difference between driving from Washington to Oregon or Washington to British Columbia? There isn't. So why should you get harassed on one border and not the other?
There is no good reason to support the current border checkpoints. Literally none.
Just curious. Do you advocate the same for crossing the U.S./Mexico borders?
Open the border and in ten years Canada would look like parts of Detroit - a ghost town.
The border isn't there to keep Americans out of Canada - it's there to keep Canadians IN Canada.
Canada has 35 million people receiving services. According to their own bean counters they need 60 million to keep things solvent. They don't have enough Canadians even with immigration. Tax rates will rise and if they had the option, they would split.
To the best of my knowledge, U.S. and Canadian people are free to split anytime they care to do so.
Where would Canadians split to that would provide them with the same quality of life at less cost?
Where would U.S. people split to that would provide the same quality of life at less cost?
They would get the same or better service in the US for less. We're stupid that way. US tax rates should be far more regressive.
60 % of personal bankruptcies in the U.S. are predicated by medical bills.
I suspect most Canadians would prefer to avoid that exposure.
