if you dont like the pageant, turn it off. there are plenty of other channels to watch. as to the pageant degrading women, i say rubbish. these women entered voluntarily, and have chances to win scholarships, among other prizes. they also get to promote themselves to hollywood for possible acting gigs, to be commercial spokespeople, etc.
as to the pageant being soft core porn, again i say rubbish. you see more on the beach than you do in the pageant swimsuit competition. and there is no sex acts performed on tv in the pageant. hill street blues was more pornographic that the pageants.
