This does not seem like a very good trend -- and this is from a liberal news source!:

Men are disappearing from the workforce - Jun. 19, 2013

In the 1950s, nearly every man in his prime working years was in the labor force, a category that includes both those who are employed and those actively applying for jobs. The "participation rate" for men ages 25 to 54 stood at 97.7% in early 1956, but drifted downward to a post-war record low of 88.4% at the end of 2012.

"The proportion of guys doing nothing has risen," said Gary Burtless, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.

The decline of men in the labor force has broad implications for families, taxpayers and the economy. Fewer employed men means more people on the dole and fewer taxpayers to contribute to the nation's economic growth.

The number of people in prison has tripled since the 1950s, and that obviously has an impact on the numbers.

Maybe prisoners should start having to work and also support their children while in prison and working.

And of those that exist, most Americans leave to immigrants to do. At some point in recent history it became more honorable to collect government funds than work a low-paying job to support yourself or offspring. In our warped national thinking flipping burgers became something to be ashamed of.

We're still working, but most of us are working two or three part time jobs to patch things together. It ain't easy but it's better than welfare.

The woman did not want to be slaves to their husbands so they liberated themselves and off to work they went. I live on a main street in a major city. I can look down from my living room in the morning and see the street cars loaded with people on their way to work in the core...90% of them are young woman....Men are disappearing from the work force or maybe from the urban office work force. Woman did not want to be subjugated and trapped - so they got their wish...They are liberated and they are now the official drones and drudges.

They do work for like 10 cents an hour. Hard to support the wife and kids on that.

Let the men be "subjugated and trapped" by being house-husbands; cooking, cleaning and child care. I'm cool with that.

People didn't call people who worked for a living "grunts" in 1956.

There used to be dignity in all work. Not anymore. On this forum if you don't sit in a burlap covered box all day typing on a computer you're a "grunt".
