Of course they shouldn't be banned.

Pitbulls were considered 'the nanny dog' for decades because of how friendly they are by nature. They were advised against being used as guard dogs because they were too friendly. Why do you think the movie 'the little rascals' used a pitbull as the dog? A few decades ago, people in inner cities started abusing them to the point where a few attacked people, and now the media calls any dog attack a 'pitbull attack' regardless of what breed it is. There is nothing inherently dangerous about the breed. Right now they are the most abused breed of dog in America. If yellow labs were the most abused dog in the country, we would see more attacks by them.

Blindly listening to media reports without actually looking into it yourself is fairly ignorant.

that is the norm for pit bulls. the ones that get in the news have been
mistreated, or the owners are not doing their jobs as pack leaders and keeping
their dogs under proper control.
You're preaching to the choir, my friend. I ran a pitbull rescue for many years. I took in dogs that were destined for the gas chamber, rehabbed them and found them good homes.
They're very sweet dogs. Always eager to please, would take a bullet for you, and just want what every other dog wants. A dish of food, a roof over their heads, a kind word and a scritch behind the ears.

No, they should not be banned. Owners are already liable for any damage done.

Just like knives should not be banned because "just imagine if someone with a knife attacked a child".

So ? There are plenty of other mistreated dogs like gray hounds that are put to sleep all the time. Why choose a pit bull? why choose a dog bred for fighting? I don't get it.

Funny how genetics and breeding matters. ....Funny how all it takes is a few "bad owners" to breed these dogs to change the genetic stock to add to the consequences of serious mauling and death for no reason other then for idiots to prove they are idiots by either nature or nurture.

My daughter could ride, pull, hit tug, and anything she wanted to, to Kona. He would just lick her face. They were buds.

Is your daughter dead? Ya don't seem to get the concept that crazy + deadly force is the problem. Crazy gold fish? Not really a problem? Ya know, runaway tricycle vs runaway train..See the difference? Now I don't really want to pass laws about which dog you can own. I just want to publicly ridicule idiots who think breed of dog does not matter. I also want to be able to shoot your dog if it attacks anyone unprovoked. I may also condone having to use lethal force against some idiot dog owners who endanger other people's lives with their machismo doggie fetish, if necessary. I am, after all, freedom loving....
