I hate public speaking and I would be terrified to have to testify in a regular courtroom for just some local trial.
I can't imagine getting up on that stand, knowing I was going to be seen by millions of people.
Throw in the fact that Rachael is obviously not particularly sophisticated and probably suffers from some esteem issues, and I can't blame her one bit for trying to avoid such a painful and overwhelming experience.
I hope there are some supportive people in her life that have at least been trying to shield her from some of the nasty, vile things that have been said about her.
Anybody with an ounce of sense would be nervous about testifying. It's a difficult situation when you are in a position where you can only ANSWER questions, not ask them. Most of the people I work with all agree they would NOT like to be put on the "hot seat" and these are people who WORK in the system and know it very well.
One was a journalism scandal, this is a murder trial of a good friend. Gosh, which do you think would be more difficult testifying about?
One is an articulate millionaire who could lose his entire career tomorrow and he'd still be all right, the other is a barely literate teen-aged girl with roots in one of the poorest most ravaged countries on this planet. Yeah, apples and oranges.
Piers Morgan was testifying for his FREEDOM....he was looking at TIME
Was Rachel?? Yes or no??? Was Rachel Jeantel a defendant...yes....or.....no
You are really trying to defend a silly analogy you just made by stating the nature of the TRIAL? The nature of the trial does not change the scope of your analogy....you were comparing the pressure of a witness on the stand to a defendant!!
I wish I could rep you for this post. She was in a difficult situation and it took courage to stand up to all the crap that's been thrown at her both in and out of court.
Did she have any choice? I am not sure but I suspect she was served a subpoena.
And a person with a very nasty vocabulary......plus I'm not sure you've convinced me you are who you claim to be above.
Well good thing that has no bearing on anything...right?
