So where I work we have this customer who we call fluoride, since he comes in looking like he's all tweaked out on meth rambling on about fluoride in the water can kill a child, talks about law suits he has against the government, etc etc.

At first I thought what a loon then a close friend said something about it too. The friend told DB and I that fluoride works like an anti depressant, a sedative, that its put in the water to sedate society. He's not strung out on drugs or acting like a nut running around a store stopping and telling random strangers, so I decided to give it a look.

There is actually a lot on this subject.
I would like to know the truth and what people think about this.

To me it sounds pretty plausible, my moms generation didn't have fluoride in the water, look at how few protests and riots there are now, hardly any in the US, look at how many happened pre-fluoride.

So it is true or a giant conspiracy theory?

We have floride added to our clean beautiful aquifer water...there are no studies showing a marked improvement in childhood carries.

There are plenty of children's dental offices all over town.

This conspiracy theory is not a new one and has been around since the late 1950s. This is how it was made fun of in the film "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" (1964).

I have been reading that there are health risks but what I was told that weirded me out was that it works like a sedative and is used to keep society in line.

Fluoride is linked to cancer, lower IQ's in children, bone disease...

A ravingly idiotic conspiracy theory.

The most recent active proponent died of curable rectal cancer after trying to get sketchy treatments from Mexico.

Harvard Study Finds Fluoride Lowers IQ - Published in Federal Gov't Journal | Reuters
Quote:
After reviewing fluoride toxicological data, the NRC reported in 2006, "It's apparent that fluorides have the ability to interfere with the functions of the brain."

Choi's team writes, "Fluoride readily crosses the placenta. Fluoride exposure to the developing brain, which is much more susceptible to injury caused by toxicants than is the mature brain, may possibly lead to damage of a permanent nature."

Fluoride accumulates in the body. Even low doses are harmful to babies, the thyroid, kidney patients and heavy water-drinkers. There are even doubts about fluoridation's effectiveness (2). New York City Legislation is pending to stop fluoridation. Many communities have already stopped.

Infant formula when mixed with fluoridated water delivers 100-200 times more fluoride than breastmilk. (3)

Read the paper, the first table (where this BS comes from) compares those with normal exposure to flouride (0.5-1.5 mg/l) to those with Flouride toxicity. Flouride toxicity is well known to lower IQ and cause problems in teeth and bones. The only thing it shows is that reading ability is not required to be scared of flouride.
