The Point of posting this article is as stated when I posted it. This perception of Northern hatred of the South is not a recent phenomenon. A debate about Northern bigotry is at least 152 years old. The content of the article or it's veracity is irrelevant to that point. So, it is NOT about this new awakening of equality, it's nothing more than a tradition. But all traditions have a first event. Now we know the first even was before June of 1861.
Now, please, Troll somewhere else.
Just FYI: Disproving an already flawed argument is not trolling.
Well, I don't know what planet you're living on, but on Earth this just simply is not the case. There is TRUE hatred and anger between the North and the South. Real harm is being done. Bigotry is harmful no matter what form it takes.
I have lived (not "visited," lived) in the following states:
California, New York, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Illinois and Colorado.
I have also served for 9 years in the Army which (as somebody above correctly observed) is overrepresented by southerners.
I can say with complete assurance that you are nuts if you honestly believe that.
Why don't you ask the OP, who seems to be pretty thin-skinned herself?
You MUST be a Liberal. Liberals don't address the topic, they engage in character assassination of the person speaking. The idea that Liberalism is the ideology intellectuals in America is the biggest perpetration of fraud in decades.
I would definitely agree CO springs is more conservative in general. I've never noticed a bigotry toward Southerns from a CO native. Some criticism but never ranting hatred. Not a lot of conversation about the South in CO.
And yet we are supposed to accept your sample size of ONE as absolute evidence of this northern hatred for all things southern?

Actually... no. It's been rather firmly established that liberalism is the ideology of intellectuals in America.
This is the primary reason conservatives are as a whole hostile to "elitists," academics, journalists and science.
OP, You've got a chip on your shoulder. There are indeed many rednecks up north to keep you company.
Yes, and Yes.

Here's what I see OP ~ you can dish it out but you sure can't take it.
There's no such thing. And i don't know why people that happen to live below that imaginary line continue to insist as much.
If there's a southern culture, that means there's a Western Culture, and a Midwestern Culture, and a Northern Culture, and on and on.
The south isn't a special region of this country....it's just another area on the map. Everything there can be found everywhere else in this country.
LOL There is a a "Western Culture, and a Midwest* Culture, and a Northern Culture, and on and on."It's not as pronounced as the differences between Western culture and Far East Culture, but there IS a difference is Culture.
Northern States have an irrational hatred of Southern Culture. This hatred has NOTHING to do with slavery or the the civil war or racism in general. This bigotry predates the Mason Dixon Line. This bigotry crosses party lines, it is NOT a Liberal vs. Conservative thing. I notice it more in people from PA. It's not just a disapproval, it's a hatred and a contempt, an almost visceral need to bludgeon Southerns to death.
How did this irrational hatred come to be and why is it allowed to continue?
Actually, I think it's the other way around. Southern states HATE the north still for the beating they got during the Civil War. It almost seems as if this hatred has been passed on from generation to generation. There's no disputing that the South is different. Some of that difference is good, some of it is heinous and monstrous.
The way I look at it:
Positive things about the South:
- Iced tea
- Politeness and smiling
- Food being a big occasion
- Some Southern families look after their extended families when help is needed
Negative things about the South:
- A disdain for education
- Persisting racism
- Obsession about religion
- A love of violence, guns, shooting, war, hunting, a love of displays of force, a need for scapegoating a group or having an enemy, a love of punishing others
- Little or no intellectual curiosity

And don't ever mistake Texas "culture" for Georgia "culture." That'll get your ears boxed. Oh... and if you mistake Atlanta "culture" for Marietta "culture"... them's fighting words too!!!
As to general Southern "culture" however, I have noticed that just about everywhere else in the south when Southerners find themselves doing stereotypically derpy southern things and are embarrassed by them, they usually say, "Thank God for Mississippi!"

When an Arkie says, "Thank God for Mississippi," it's an expression of exasperation, an admission that we have once again despite our best efforts managed to fail utterly. We're not the bottom of the barrel. We're the dust that has settled on the bottom of the barrel. We're almost envious of Mississippi. When you're rock bottom you can at least pretend it's because you don't care about the rankings. When you're next to last it implies that you tried and blew it. Next to last is a spread eagle bellyflop off the ten meter board.

Okay, this is SO true and made me laugh! Yes, we've seen some idiot things down here on occasion (I'm sure everyone gets that where ever they're from) but we get to say 'At least we're not Mississippi'.
