I don't think Stalin deserves any credit....he was a tool. The Wehrmacht were blowing the Russians to glass until the allies sent reinforcements.

If he was such a great leader he would have had much better strategic command, much better munitions and better trained troops. Why couldn't it have been done? The Russians outproduced the hell out if Germany... But no...it ended up being a gruesome proxy war that the allies capitalized on by supporting Stalin throwing 27 million bodies into the woodchipper.

So yes, even Tsar Nicholas could have done that.

So surely, credit must be given to Stalin and Lenin?
Jeezus; do you actually know anything about history, or do you just like to spew pro-communist/mass murderer claptrap?

The US and Britain would have won without Russia. The Russians would have lost without the US and Britain. Simple as that.

Oh, come the f.ck on, now. Stalin's purges had thousands of competent officers in Gulag camps while political toadies botched opportunity after opportunity. Look at the Winter War - overconfidence and amateurism. When you lose 3000+ armored vehicles in an attack on an enemy who has - not a typo - 30 tanks to its name, you're not running a competent campaign.

The Soviet military was pants-down surprised in 1941. If it hadn't been for Nazi overconfidence and General Winter, all the world's "backbone of steel" would have been a perfectly moot point. The Soviet war effort eventually got itself organized, some actually competent officers were released from the camps, and the Russians fought like p.ssed-off people defending their own homes tend to do.

Communism actually saved the day here.

So why all the negativity towards the Soviets?
You could start with the fact that Stalin intentionally starved more Ukrainians to death than Hitler killed in the camps.
