Can anyone explain why or why not a President of the Libertarian Party would be better or worse than a Republican or Democrat? I personally think Libertarianism is the perfect compromise for both parties. Any thoughts?

Nobody takes libertarians seriously. And to be elected president, you must be taken seriously.

Why would a Libertarian even want to be President? There's so much more money to be made in the private sector.

They would if Americans still believed in true freedom. Both Republicans and Democrats have their vision of what they think the USA should be and that involves restricting individual liberty in certain areas to achieve that vision. Republicans want to control people's bodies and Democrats want to control people's pocketbooks.

At one point Ron Paul was a Libertarian, and he's taken seriously in my opinion.

Libertarians can not depend on your vote. Ayn Rand worshipers can only depend on themselves.

Surely, you jest. Ron Paul has never been much more than a comic punchline. He is certainly the least productive legislator in generations.

Taking money out of the equation, the country would be a lot better with a Libertarian President or an Independent President in my opinion. Both parties are too extreme and can't get along enough to run a country without being corrupt.

It would be of no use/little impact since the amount of a Power the president wills on issues of importance. . .are fairly low

Maybe stop all drug prosecutions, pardons for all drug users?

Regardless, whomever it is they will toe the party line, and not have guts to veto every bill that they don't like

No. They wouldn't. That's because the issue is not "true" freedom. It is rational freedom. It is possible freedom. It is freedom that does not inherently destroy itself in violence and conflict.

Libertarianism is founded on the anomalous and absurd belief in the preeminence of the individual over the community. It is a simplistic and reductionist deification of the selfish individual as the arbiter of what is "right." In this way it is essentially pointless, because "right" has no meaning outside of community. Only withing a community can there ever be any moral question of "right" or "wrong." Outside of a community the very concept of freedom is completely vacuous.

As such libertarianism stands in direct contradiction to all of human progress. Even biologically we are a social species, not a solitary one.

Humans as communities are capable of almost anything.

Humans as individuals are food.
