Most autoparts supply stores, will hook your cars computer up to a code scanner, for free. They can then tell you exactly what part you need and the cost... also the location the part is on the engine and sell you a wrench.....
Instead of the guy that is inspecting it, trying to sell you the fix for the failure.
Get'r Done!
It probably means YOUR GAS CAP IS NOT TIGHTENED ENOUGH.
Could be ... But as far as "probably" goes ... I don't think so.
That is the first thing you are told to check .... make sure it is tight and clicks multiple times.
the funny thing is that they don't even hook anything up to your exhaust anymore. if the check engine light is on, they simply fail you. this is abuse on a level that is incomprehensible. your good lobbyists at AC delco, and pep boys have friends on the left.
Chris Christie removed so many checks during inspection and reverted to the check engine light pass/fail. It should go back to the way it was. There's nothing wrong for passing or failing a car for functioning as intended... but they should actually run adequate checks.
and i have a degree in automotive technology, as well as experience as a crew chief on a race car, and experience rebuilding and restoring various cars over the years. i also have experience as a GM dealer mechanic, and one of the things i had to study over the years was emissions systems.
And the governor who pushed for looser inspections was Chris Christie (not that he cares much about health). This is a good example of the an ignorant OP taking a position based on his imagination. Sad that he gets to vote.
As I was taking my daughters car through NJ State inspection, I saw three older cars fail for emissions. You have 14 days to make the necessary repairs, which when dealing with emissions can cost big bucks.
People with the means can easily afford to have the repairs made without hardship....poor people, not so much.
One of the three was a black woman, who most likely voted for these lefties who put the environmental laws into effect. She was very angry.....screaming that she doesn't have the money to fix her car.
Enjoy!
NJ has been doing routine vehicle inspections for decades. What's new is the emissions component, which probably was triggered by the EPA on the basis of air quality. So I don't think emissions testing is their choice, but they're not making anyone happy (except themselves) the way they're doing it.
Yep, now she can enjoy that clean air while she sits on her porch becsue she can no longer get to work.
but if she can't get to work, she can't pay the rent, so she won't have a porch on which to sit.
