Excuse me? When I saw the watermelons on display, I could pretty much tell this had everything to do with starting problems. Anyone who would claim "PC" obviously thinks according to stereotypes Ask yourself this: Why else would someone use a Confederate flag and watermelons to display "white pride"? I don't see any White people from the rest of the nation identifying with that, and watermelons are basically a stereotype against Black people. I don't see how seeing that float as distasteful is being "politically correct". Yes, that person has a right to use such a float. However, I also have freedom of speech to express how distasteful it is.
Right, when I saw the watermelons, I wondered where the fried chicken was.
Obviously this person has trouble expressing ideas in a socially acceptable manner.
A picture snapped by a parade-goer at a parade in Hope Mills NC shows a man on a tractor flying a confederate flag and pulling a wagon loaded with watermelons. A sign on the trailer read: “White History Month. Hug WTE PPL.”
Town officials said when the farmer applied for the parade permit he would be hawling watermelons with a sign they are for sale at a nearby bank.
He actually was on his way back from the beautiful wedding between him and his sister and got caught in a parade. They seemed pretty cool. After eating delicious, homemade mayonnaise sandwiches, they went home to finish the night with some "white power, while powder".
I agree and that is wrong. I am white and I am proud that I am and I will not apologize for feeling that way.
Good for you. We need more unique and special snowflakes standing up for who they are. I bet your mommy says you're the bestest person in the whole wide world every night when she tucks you in.
Name me one group who's history is not tied hand in hand with the enslavement of someone.
The world wasn't created 200 years ago you know.
The American slave system was like none other in the history of existence. A group of people were permantely stripped of their identity and culture. Unlike whites, you can find only a handful of blacks (myself included) who could trace their ancestry as far back to the 17th century. We are still feeling the after effects of it and Jim Crow.
So anyone who is proud of their "skin color" and waves a Confederate flag was for slavery and is racist?
Yes, considering that rag (something that I would love to wipe my ass with) was a symbol of not only the enslavement of Africans and slaughter of native Americans (The us flag is too, but I'm staying on topic), but treason. The Confederates in droves deserved to be executed on that alone.
It's funny because White people are supposed to be the ones that hold all the power, yet they aren't even allowed to be proud to be White.
No, racists don't get it when they are being racist. That's the issue. Having an all white party where everyone is Norwegian/Swedish/a country where 99 percent of the population is white is cool. Having a party with black face or asking the African American servers to dress like slave servers because you have so much money you can afford your own fancy catering service, not cool. Really, it's common sense.
Sorry, but to me what you are saying is, "We just can't party like it's 1950 anymore and I hate that."

have you seen the movie white chicks? that was a great example of reverse black face. very tastefully done.
Uh; slavery wasn't just a "white" thing. Blacks in Africa had slaves and I'm sure Asian people had it too.
Yes, blacks did own slaves...all ten of them did
I love how people trot out that fact as if to take the blame off white southerners for that. Slavery was largely a race based system with white people (and very few black outliers) at the top, and four million black slaves at the bottom. And bringing up black slaveowners won't change that a bit.
