How about this for news for all those who claim that universal healthcare will bankrupt the nation!
Besides building quality cars the Germans have a great healthcare system with a financial surplus! Over $5 billion. Eat your sick heart out, America!

This quote from the article:
"She notes that most religions teach people to “love their neighbors” as a central part of what spiritual life is about. When this principle has such a central religious function – and the United States is so religious – “then why can’t you get it across that people should contribute a bit to support others, for example in health insurance.”

Obviously, she has little idea of American style religion.

Greece, Spain and Ireland all have "Universal Healthcare" as well.

Where's their surplus?

Perhaps you've thrown a curve ball, but the question remains.

Greece has universal healthcare as well, so where is their surplus?

I dunno...maybe they should copy Germany's system apparently.

What's wrong with mimicking something that actually works? Because what we're doing now damn sure doesn't work.

I'm not really on either side of the equation, because I can accept the pros and cons of both sides. I'm not sure how something like this would work if implemented into our system.

I think the biggest impediment to this is simply timing. I wouldn't vouch for UHC in the middle of the second worse financial crises in our country's history. Perhaps when we're back in the green, maybe.

either way, it's disingenuous to suggest that Germany's system will work. Germany currently has something like a 4-5% unemployment rate and they do have UHC. Greece also has it and has triple the UE rate. Just "sticking it in" there doesn't mean that our current financial situation will mimic Germany's.
