The reason minimum wage used to be liveable is because they didn't have to have cable/satellite and cell phones. That alone has shot up everyone's bills by at least $150 a month. Not to mention the stupid cost of gasoline and food. Minimum wage will never be live-able until living without cable or cell phones (and their data plans) stop being considered essential by those trying to live off of it.
You have got to be kidding. You think minimum wage is doable simply by doing away with cable & cell phones? You are totally not even living in reality if you think that. That's just about one of the most absurd things I've heard on here. That's saying a lot.
Maybe the city of DC can open their own discount food store and then no one will stop them from paying their employees a liveable wage with good benefits. Call it "Government-Mart"
The politicians have solved the problem of outsourcing. Import the workers to achieve competitiveness loss. The rest go on wealth sharing welfare which are dependent on welfare providers.
Companies with unions don't have to abide by this new wage increase. They are basically saying hey wally world just unionize so we can get more dues and votes then you can pay what everybody else does. The city council in DC is outta control. Not a shock. Nothing but criminals.

Maybe, but don't leave out that when you adjust for inflation, MW peaked ~$10/hr, and has been dropping ever since.
I hope WalMart sues to recoup the costs they have incurred to date due to this blatent "bait and switch" after luring them to the district.
WM should locate within a mile of the city limit on every side if possible, and do so away from available DC mass transit. That would make DC residents w/o cars less likely to get the jobs, and they can thank the reps who voted for LW for their plight. But they could still see the elusive WM they cannot get transportation to.
They can send DC copies of their Sales Tax remittances, so DC can figure out what it lost. Do the same with property taxes paid.
Annually, I'd take out a full page Washington Post ad if I were them showing both, and printing the names and phone numbers of every rep who voted for this bill.

The most absurd thing is commenting on something that you haven't read through or thoroughly. Read it again.
Unless you woke up one morning at the age of 30 and never had a job before, then "yes" you do have a choice.
I meant having a choice to have a family from Day 1. Apparently you imagine that everyone in America has someone to support them all along.
