If you can't afford to live somewhere, you don't live there. It's really that simple. You don't gain some type of ownership of property by renting it for a few years.
Lol, so if he can't afford to live there be shouldn't, but if granny cannot afford to live there we should pay more so she can.
Rent control is another transfer of money from the young to old. Thanks baby boomers.
I just reviewed the first page of NYC craigslist. 68 out of the 96 rents came in below 3000, with a good decent percentage of them falling between 1200 and 2000.
The gripe that I have is that you really do not get much for your money for an apartment in NY. No great amenities unless you are paying top dollar in luxury buildings.
Why would people would be willing to put up with NY with its high, ripped off, cost and lousy weather. This city is depressing and somewhat boring. Just go to Philly and the cost is reasonable. Your mood would brighten significantly. Otherwise, you can go Florida, Idaho and Tex. where they are cheap and attractive. San Diego is a steal for low cost at SRO's, where are nice. Forget NY!
Florida, Texas, or Idaho? LMAO...leave NYC to live in Idaho?
Really? Is that a serious proposal? Those places are cheap for a reason.

This is econ 101. You don't know what you're talking about.
No it's not. It's nonsense.
No...it isn't nonsense.
That increase in supply would last 2 seconds before real estate would be right back where it was two seconds previously.
We're not talking about Ft Worth. We're talking about NYC where space to build is severely limited to begin with.
I'm a bridge folk, I cannot afford to live where I work, you don't see me complaining about affordable housing or a living wage.
Hmmm, let me guess...you're not a burger flipper. WhereTF do burger flippers live inn the Bay Area?
