This is ...interesting. Violence and crime, in general, have become synonymous with , predominantly, Black, population areas. The "Hood", if you will. However, this is not unique to the U.S. When we look at conditions across the entire continent of Africa, which holds a LOT of countries, how many of the latter are stable and peaceful? Infighting, of the most violent and brutal sort, is rampant. People go about their daily lives, in fear for those lives, from any number of threats. RUF, LUF, ANC, Zulu, Hutu, Tsutze, and tbe list goes on, are killing and maiming, wholesale. Solidarity is, practically, nonexistent, and when it comes to the art of hatred, these tribal groups are Grand Masters.
Here, in the States, we have a similar situation, though not as blatant and overt, it's a close parallel. Crips, Bloods, and so many other smaller, yet growing, gangs, that hate each other, and are therefore "at war". Funded and fueled, by drugs and hatred these little wars rage. Oh, the motives, "uniforms" and equipment, vary a bit from the African groups, but results are very similar. The Bloods, for example, aren't rolling in modified Toyota 4x4s with a Russian DSHK mounted in the bed, ala the RUF. Rather, they have Cadillac Escalades, with blacked out windows, 18" spinners, and set up inside armed with smaller, but no less lethal, hardware. Tactics may be disparate, but the violence is not.
As the Hispanic gangs grow, fighting between the Black gangs and the latter do too, but this is not serving to unite the Black gangs, against a common foe. They still kill each other, with zeal.
Looking at the parallels, between African groups and American street gangs, what, exactly, is the difference? Other than motives? Is this whole culure of violence and hatred an inate feature oc Black life? Literally a cultural , even genetic, thing.
I use the genetic possibility, because genetics are a natural evolution in adaptation to environment. Generations, raised in a violent and brutal surrounding, will, be violent and brutal.
It has been postulated, that the rate of violence and crime, amongst American Blacks, is a result of a lack of access to proper education, decent jobs, medical care, good living conditions, etc. This was the case, for quite a while, IMHO, but does that dog still hunt?
There are, literally, hundreds, of public and private funded programs, out there, aimed specifically, at improving opportunity for Blacks in the U.S. These programs are exclusive, and far reaching. A large number of Black people have benefited, greatly, from these programs, and they are open to all Black communities. So, is there still a mandate to stay in the "Hood"? Other than a lure of power, drug money, and an adrenaline and drug fueled life, spent on the edge of death?
...and as long as people turn this into a racial issue and people turn away and refuse to acknowledge it, the root causes for this will never be addressed.
Blacks are also much more likely than whites to be VICTIMS of murder.
So, according to the prevailing "logic," there must be a national campaign to increase gun ownership among blacks -- particularly among young black males, who are disproportionately represented as murder victims. Because widespread gun ownership is the only way to reduce crime.

The ones doing the shooting seem to have no problem getting guns, but on a theoretical level, I support every law abiding citizen's right to legally bear arms.
I'd like to see hapless Republicans stop focusing on those blacks on the bottom, citing statistics which show the struggle for survivial in these segments, and do something, ANYTHING, to lessen the differences between us. Republicans don't want to have a conversation about race because of the utter worthlessness that their ideology has proven to be in this area. I think you better leave Holder alone. He's got you beat.
Blacks on the bottom may be killing each other, but what in the hell is the typical Republican's excuse for being so clueless about all issues involving race, civil rights, and equality? You Regressives are too small-minded to even recognize the contributions of the extraordinary number of brilliant, accomplished, educated, and talented blacks. You're far more of a detriment to this society than even the most ignorant black person since society gives you every consideration, yet you chose remain clueless.
Forget about trying to have a conversation with Holder. Get better informed, educate YOURSELVES, and join us in the 21st century.
Holder doesn't want to have a conversation about race, he wants to give a lecture on race.
