I'd like to bring a discussion from another forum here, in addition to adding a few other questions.

Should either choice require a license?
Should this choice be given to the state legislatures to decide?

Default What is safer (for the individual or society), Open Carry or Concealed Carry?

Concealed.

Interesting. The argument over at the other forum was that concealed carry does not ward off criminals unlike open carry, and has a slower draw speed.

Open carry is a great way to scare off the foreign tourists. They`re not so anxious to visit an insane asylum.

In our current societal climate, society does not want to see a person with a gun walking around.

Is there something insane to having a ranged weapon to protect yourself? Is there something insane to personal responsibility?

My first instinct was to answer concealed, but then again I can't help but wonder if actually seeing who is carrying might not be more enlightening.

The person carrying openly can`t possibly be disarmed with the gun ending up in the wrong hands? The open carrier believes he/she is invincible?

Concealed carry legalization plants the thought that anyone could be carrying so I better be nice to everyone I meet and not punch them in the face if they look at me cross eyed or say something I consider a diss.
