Because we grew up with Cinderella and the other Disney princesses, and women love romance and happy endings. I set my alarm for 3am to see Prince Charles marry Diana (yikes, I'm getting old, lol) I think this couple will be a lot happier than they were, though.

Precisely.

This also has to do with why we (and everything else) never quite measure up to your expectations.

I hate happy endings. How long before these two are divorced and the little one is in rehab?

But, happily, it didn't. We correctly slaughtered its defenders, and today we have freedom, and the monarchists have irrelevance.

Except for the fact that they suck the good citizens dry and offer, as grim compensation, entertainment for the simple-minded in the form of the occasional horrific childbirth or stilted wedding. I do enjoy the funerals however. Every one that dies will be replaced by something less, until the monarchy withers to an overdue symbolic death to match the metaphysical death that took place decades ago.

So no, ladies and simpletons, I will not go gently into that good night. I will continue to offer just the right dose of reality. Insanity such as this must not escape the appropriate analysis. Besides, hating on putrescent absurdity such as this is just plain fun.
Weren't you going to stop because it was making you nauseated? Did you take a Gravol? Smoke some weed?
Nah, it couldn't be weed. People who smoke weed have a sunnier disposition.

Quite a few straight men at work today were excited about this. Do you want their names?

Oh, we are not as bad as you think. My Honey was knight in shining armor today, and he's not rich or royal - he was waiting outside the post office for me in his truck when I came out in torrential rain (it was sunny when I walked up there). That's all it takes to make me swoon!

I don't think they are going to get divorced, not Kate and Wills!

It isnt as simple as you have tried to make it.

It's not as simple and innocuous as you try to make it.

Royals represent the acme of the class system, the epitome of an age of aristocracy that harks to a bygone feudal era. It's difficult to imagine that any country can call itself a modern democratic society when the highest public office in the land - head of state - is inherited. You get this job by being the firstborn of a generation of the royal family, no matter how wise or stupid you are. Britain, for example, won't be able to have an Obama or an Asian head of state for the foreseeable future because of that system which sustains the same old white family. The head of state is the symbol of the nation and it's very important ethically that this position be open to everyone and be chosen by the people based on merit and character.

Even this article looks at both sides of the issue, but IMO, there is something off kilter when a position of power and influence is inherited and people accept that power and authority is a birthright.

A nice note saying how great it is that they have a son, and that if he had a son, it would look like...
